A man whose head was covered in a bag and who had his hands bound was found dead Wednesday morning in a restroom at Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport, authorities said.

Airport police were called to the bathroom shortly before 8 a.m. and found a body slumped in a stall, according to sources familiar with the case. They called Los Angeles police, who dispatched detectives with the department's robbery-homicide division to investigate.

The sources said it was not immediately clear if the death was a suicide or a homicide.

[Updated at 12:30 p.m.: Los Angeles police said that a preliminary investigation indicates that the man in the restroom died from a possible suicide. They said the case has been turned over to the Los Angeles County Coroner to determine official cause of death. They also stressed that the investigation was in its early stages.]

So, his hands were bound and his head was found in a bag and the detectives think it was suicide? WTF, over?

Let the crime scene techs and the coroner do their work and we'll see.

Doesn't sound like suicide but the census taker in Kentucky (?) didn't sound like a suicide either.

I just found it ironic that his severed head was in a bag and his hands were tied. How does somebody kill themselves if their hands are tied, they then cut off their head and place it in a bag?

Nowhere in the link does it say the head was severed, just that it was covered in a bag.

Unfortunately bagged head and bound hands are entirely consistent with suicide, absent other evidence.

It doesn't say if his hands were bound in front or behind but, yes, suicide is possible. We had an inmate get a plastic bag, put it over his head, and go to sleep.

I read too quickly. I guess when I saw head in a bag, first thing I thought was decapitated.

A bag is consistent with suicide, especially if it's asphyxiation, but bound hands strike me as odd. I can't imagine why a suicide would tie himself up.

Well, I guess they'll stop letting you take bags into the airport.

I did think of that, but I rejected it because if I were the one doing it, I think that I'd have enough faith in my own conviction to leave my hands free, if for no other reason than to keep myself from falling into the toilet. Maybe someone else didn't think that they'd be able to go through with it, but if that were the case, I would think that they'd be more likely to take a way out that was irreversible, like jumping off of a building. And why pick a public restroom? Admittedly, the ones at LAX are pretty clean, as public restrooms go, but still...

It was symbolic, all his hopes and dreams had gone down the drain.

They didn't mention him having one foot in a neighboring stall.
