We reached 109 today. My electric bill is going to be the death of me.

Saturday's heat breaks a Phoenix record (http://www.azcentral.com/community/phoenix/articles/2010/09/18/20100918phoenix-weather-heat-record-high-brk.html)

Phoenix reached 109 degrees a little after 3 p.m. on Saturday, breaking a 30-year record for the day's highest recorded temperature.

That beats the record of 107 degrees set in 1980, said Mike Bruce, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

It's a little out of the ordinary given that we are a week away from the start of autumn. Plus, I'm just bloody sick of the heat. :)

Another record today--111 degrees. (http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/09/19/20100919phoenix-hot-weather0919-ON.html) The older I get, the less amusing this becomes.

The Valley hit another record breaking high Sunday as a late summer heat wave stretched into its seventh day.

"Our high so far has been 111 (degrees)," National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Bruce said about 3:15 p.m.

Earlier in the day, the agency expected the Valley to reach 110 degrees.

Experts say that marks the latest 110-degree reading since they started keeping records in the late 1800s.

"This is the warmest we've ever been this late in the year," Bruce said.

The Valley typically stops reaching the 110 degree mark in August.

"This is just (an) unusually strong high pressure system aloft for this time of year," Bruce said.

Before Sunday, the last time the Valley got such high temperatures this late in the year was Sept. 15, 2000.

"It's not unusual to get 110 in September," Bruce added. "It certainly doesn't happen every year, but it's not unusual."

The heat also smashed the record high for this date set in 1962 when the mercury reached 107 degrees, said Keith Kincaid, the agency's meteorological technician.

He said high temperatures will continue into the week with 106 degrees on Monday, 103 on Tuesday, 100 on Wednesday, 98 on Thursday, 101 on Friday and 102 on Saturday.

The average high this time of year is 98 degrees, he added.

That's a shame.

You also have the worst air (by particle) in the country. That's a shame too.
