The multi-millionaire owner of the Segway company died in a freak accident yesterday when he rode one of the high-tech two-wheel machines off a cliff and into a river.
Former miner Jimi Heselden, 62, plunged into the River Wharfe while riding around his West Yorkshire estate in Boston Spa on a rugged country version of the Segway.
He bought the firm last December and was using one of the machines - which use gyroscopes to remain upright and are controlled by the direction in which the rider leans - to inspect the grounds of his property.

You are evil.........................But so am I.:D
Have to admit I laughed too. If I had been there when it happened,
I'm afraid I'd have busted out laughing on the spot. Just the thought
of the site of him rolling along and going airborne still standing clutching
the handle bars all the way down....:D
Prolly no different than riding a bike off a cliff. Why would you take a Segway on a trail like that...

If the river wasn't there it would have driven him in like a fence post.:D

We do a lot of mountain biking out here and the drops are pretty bad. Normal people don't use trails that are that close to the edge. That's strictly for the "live forever" crowd.
They often do live but they don't trail bike anymore.

What? The device? I think they are super cool. I just can't think of a way to employ one in my own life.
With all due respect to the deceased.... I am sorry to hear about his accident.
I had no idea Segways had become become so off-road.

Sorry they look gay.
Can you picture Clint Eastwood driving up and saying" do you feel lucky punk"?
I could picture Barney Frank headed to work on one!

I dunno, they seem pretty cool to an alpha nerd like me. Now, it's unlikely a horse would have gone over the cliff. I'll grant you that.

I think it would be okay for a girl to ride one, with low rider jeans and a bikini top!

Well, yeah, but if she's hot, and wearing low ride jeans and a bikini top, who needs the Segway?

I can see an Ultimate Seqway combat show, but only if they use sharpened lances and edged weapons. Otherwise, it's just another time waster that will draw lots of guys who have come up from their parents' basement for the first time in years, which isn't necessarily a good thing.
