I just put two and two together and divided it by 2. Here's the story, the county I live in just built this shitty little park and welcome center that no one will ever stop at. They named it Elrod Park, in honor of some guy who fought in WW II from here. I was reading the paper yesterday about the dedication ceremony tomorrow at the park. Turns out Henry Elrod, who is from Turner County was the first aviator to recieve the Congressional Medal of Honor during WW II. He was the first man to sink a warship.

The Frigate, USS Elrod, is named after him. When I was onboard the USS Peterson, the Elord was docked right next to us. I never knew that it was named after someone from my little nowhere home town. Pretty cool, actually.

Glad to see he has not been forgotten.
It's great that his memory is being honored still.

As a teen I was a voracious reader. I read an account of the battle of wake island and I remember this man, but not the name. I'm glad they honored him.

And I will make it a point if I ever can to stop at that welcome center and park and sign a guest book if there is one.

Is the welcome center in town or at an interstate exit?

It's in town, off exit 82 (Ashburn). Just go through town (it won't take long), just past the second traffic light (there's only three).

I'll make it a point to sign in if I ever go there. It's a good gesture for a great American.
