I figured since we had in the GD forum a thread which turned into a discussion of Michelle Obama's beauty, I figured some of us guys and women could talk about the beauty of some of our former first ladies.

I submit the obvious and most cliched choice--Jackie O.--as the most beautiful first lady. Rosalyn Carter was attractive in her youth too. Elizabeth Monroe appears to have been pretty. Emily Donelson (Andrew Jackson's wife) and Frances Cleveland were attractive as well.

Don't forget Nancy Reagan, who still very attractive for a woman her age and a real beauty in her youth. Then there's Laura Bush, who is also a good looking woman.

I don't know if Jackie was really beautiful. She certainly knew how to groom and present herself. In a way, she reminds me of Victoria Beckham. Beckham is by her own admission "very ordinary" but over the past 5 years or so she's created an image that is striking. Jackie was striking also.

Hillary CAN be quite attractive, but she can be hideous also.

I never thought Jackie was all that pretty right in the face.
But she was the epitomy of class and style. For that time
period she was the perfect example of a well bred woman
with poise, charm and style. The classic 1950's debutant with
a WWII hero on her arm. Every woman's dream life of the day.

I always felt very bad for Jackie, seeing her husband murdered right in front of her in such a barbaric and horrifying manner.
I mean regardless of his failures as a husband, he still was her husband and I'm sure she loved him.

I always thought JFK was a snake, but I cannot imagine the horror she had to go through. No one should have to deal with that.

As for attractive 1st ladies, as young women, Nancy Reagan was no dog.

And Hillary Clinton was very attractive as a young woman:

And look at Barbara Bush from back in the stone age:

I don't know about beauty and all, but Abigal Adams and Dolley Madison were two of the coolest first ladies. Abigal stood firm with her husband against slavery, even if John didn't get it banned in the consititution. Her own husband considered her to be his intellectual equal, which was not common in that time.

Dolley saved all the portraits from the White House when she fled before the british troops burned it in the War of 1812. That makes her pretty cool. She was pretty in the painting that I've seen of her.

Poor Eleanor. Still, all brides are beautiful and she had her moments.

Yes, Mrs. Cleveland was a classic beauty, of those soft 19th century looks.
I love when with those gentle yet angular features.
