Ecstatic relatives cheered and hugged and raced up a mist-shrouded hillside to the 33 flags that have become the symbol of the vigil since the men were entombed by a rockfall 65 days ago.

At the minehead, rig-workers punched the air with their fists at 8.05 am local time when the drill broke through into a tunnel 2,047 feet beneath them.


“This is a wonderful moment,” said Janet Laques, mother of the youngest miner, 19-year-old Jimmy. “It feels like the rescue is finally underway.”

The miners reacted with jubilation in a live video-link with the surface as the tip of the drill’s hammer broke through into their underground workshop. ...

Yay! I was interested to read that they will have to wear special dark glasses for a time when they come up. Who knew?

They drilled a smaller tunnel and sent them food, water, medicine and other necessities that could fit.

They drilled a smaller tunnel and sent them food, water, medicine and other necessities that could fit.

They also sent condoms and lube, and they are expected to come up as 15 couples...

One of them, I imagine, would rather he stayed down there...his wife and his mistress are BOTH waiting for him :eek:
