For anyone who doubts that we are in the realm of insanity, let me mention the names Christine O'Donnell from Delaware, Sharron Angle from Nevada, Rand Paul from Kentucky, Palladino from New York, and of course, the woman who's currently running for nothing, Sarah Palin.

There are many more of these tea bag crazies running this year, but they're names are not as well known.

How the hell did we get here? How the hell did the unacceptable become acceptable? How the hell did so many Americans become so brain-dead? How the hell have we ended up on the verge of our very own demise?

I could be wrong, but it might have started with the election of Ronald Reagan. And then it got even worse when he was elected again.

The years between then and now are nothing to brag about. Especially the eight Bush/Cheney years that may very well have driven a coffin nail into American democracy.

We're two weeks away from a midterm election. And I live in fear that the (most crazy) the Republicans, will take away the congress from the less crazy (the Democrats).

But I've left out the answer to the headline in the original post. How did we get here? We're here because of the obscene wealth and power of corporate America. Thay've managed to buy our politicians, our MSM, and every person in this country incapable of grasping the power of bigotry, hatred, and the nature of propaganda.

I don't know if there's much we can do about this. But I'm open to any suggestions

Exactly i ask the same question How did America elect such a stupid hateful know nothing childish socialist as president... i have been asking this question for the last 22 months... how did Obama get elected ?

How did American politics cross over into insanity?

As soon as the Democrats regained power.

How did American politics cross over into insanity? Half of it was already insane. The Conservatives only recently joined in to fight back against the insanity of the DIMS, and their enablers in the MSM have popularized the notion that both parties are "insane."

The slippage into insanty began long long ago but the real thrust into the wonders of full blown psychosis came with the 24-hour news cycle.

People do not realize how split countries can become over issues. It is more of a natural thing than most realize. We argued here over beginning the revolution, slavery, the creation of the Constitution, going to war with Spain, entering WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, health care, immigration. The French split down the middle over the Dreyfus Affair, Brits home rule for the Irish, multitudes of issues abound throughout the decades that causes insanity and hard feelings.
It's a hard world out there folks, you don't get your way just because you want it that way. You have to do the work, present the facts and convince people of the wisdom of your stance.
The insanity comes from believing, just because you see it that way so does everyone else.

I agree with this except for a slight variation on the last sentence. I would leave off everything after the comma. The insanity comes from believing. That is all that is required for people to think Sharia law is taking over in a non-existent town in Texas or that there is going to be a draft to fight a war in Iran.
