My first verbal altercation with a Freeper....

Edited on Sun Oct-31-10 03:58 PM by Kang Colby
So….the other day (Saturday morning) I was out running errands. I stopped by the bank and then I realized that I was all out of OJ. This was something that needed to be remedied ASAP, as I was preparing a brunch for some friends and family later that day. My plan was to prepare some cantaloupe slices, eggs, bacon, toast, English muffin pizzas, and a small pot of oyster stew. No problem there, all of the essentials were waiting to be prepared @ home. I was just slam out of OJ.

So off to the grocery store I went. I swear, my plan was only to grab OJ. Well, I hadn’t yet eaten breakfast…so you can only imagine how that went, lol. Before long my cart was full of multi grain Fig Newtons, whole grain chips, almond milk, habaneras, and a ton of organic frozen stuff from Amy’s (my all time fav.) While I was in the cereal aisle there were two parents (presumably mom and dad) and their 2 kids…probably about 4 or 5 years of age. The kid’s were clearly getting on their parent’s last nerve. Screaming, throwing stuff from the cart, etc.,etc. You could tell mom and dad were at their wit’s end. I felt bad for the couple, obviously young and in-experienced. The mom had an Obama ’08 hoodie on as well – so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

While the parent’s were busy attending to their youngsters; they were too busy to notice that their two grocery carts were blocking my access (and several others) to the stuff on the shelves. “No biggie”, I thought to myself. I just decided to patiently wait. Well, along comes this blue haired old freeper and she jerks the parents cart away from the shelf and grabs some oatmeal. The mother of the children, apologized to the old bagger repeatedly once she noticed she was obstructing access to the shelves. The old freeper looked at her with a grimace, let out a groan and was on her way down the aisle. Clearly, she wanted to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
As she gets to the end of the cereal aisle, she begins to tell other customers, “don’t bother trying to shop, two kids are throwing a fit up that aisle! Those kids need some stern discipline! I’m sure their mother would rather have the State take care of rearing her children.” Then I heard her mutter the usual about food stamps, socialism, and Obama.

While reading some of the posts on DU, you’d think that this sort of thing was more common – but I can count on one hand how often I’ve seen freeperisms in public. To say I was shocked would be the least. The customers she was yelling towards were mostly silent, a few let out some uneasy chuckles.

A few minutes later as I was headed towards the cashier, who did I see picking up her prescriptions at the pharmacy? None other than the blue haired limbo-ette. Before paying for her medicine, I noticed she pulled a card from her wallet – clearly labeled “Part D”. As I walked past her, she noticed me and said, “ I feel sorry for their children, there is clearly no-parenting in that household”. Deciding to be witty, I pointed to her medicine and said, “ I feel sorry for you, forced to enjoy the fruits of socialism and all. The hypocrisy must be difficult to deal with.”…..She didn’t say a word as I headed towards the check-out.

Thanks to DU! I’m proud to report that I am 1-0 against the Freepers.

on edit: Has anyone else been emboldened by DU to speak truth to power when faced with a Freeper?

Wow.....What a hero!! (heavy sarcasm)

A freeper-altercation virgin. You done good. ;)

I feel that's all I do anymore, is engage the Freepers, Beckheads, Palinites, Dittoheads, etc. They're all the same obviously.

Even within my own family. :(

It gets exhausting, so use your energy wisely.

9. I hope so!

I did it with a smile on my face, and a half joking tone....does that mean I score extra points? She looked as if she had the wind knocked out of her....perfect timing it was. And the DUmmies are all hero worshiping her.

Long winded ( who the Hell cares about your bunch menu).

Picking senior citizens.

Two super powers; knowing someone's political beliefs before they state them and super hearing ( how else can you hear what someone says under their breath at the other end of the aisle).

And why didn't you closeline the old lady and have everyone in the store cheer you.

Notice how none of these people run into truck drivers, cops, military folks, hunters, lumberjacks, cowboys, or anyone else who could kick their wimp ass for getting their face.

The OP needs a few pointers for future reference:

There is way too much detail in this encounter. The sheer number of irrelevant observations makes this look like a completely false story.

People in grocery stores don't "wait patiently" while children and their parents clog up access to the aisles. Everybody's time is important and a lot of people shop between work and some other errand. It's the norm for people to move an unattended cart or to ask the cart user to move it.

A huge number of people over 50 are AARP members and as such, voters for Democrat causes. Age is not an indicator of party affiliation. Also, blue rinses for eldery women have been out of fashion and pretty much unknown outside of nursing home beauty shops since the 80s. This is another irrelevant "fact' that points to the false nature of the story.

The conversation from the "freeper" also doesn't ring true. As a real Freeper myself, I can tell you that I don't consider retail transactions and encounters to be a useful time for political education. Not only am I busy (like everyone else) but political, sexual, religious, or parenting exchanges with strangers is a waste of time and potentially dangerous. It's the kind of thing that unemployed, young men do to fill up the empty hours of the day.

I give this 1 bong for composition and use of language.

You know you're bad off when even the conservative Washington Times presents "gender equality" as an ideal. We should discriminate against women. Working men who are supporting a wife and kids should have more pay than the career girl playing Mary Tyler Moore or Ally McBeal while filling a diversity quota.

Of course, the Washington Times is required to follow equal pay laws, so its opinion just recapitulates the law. The feminist media monopoly is government-backed.

Being a vet, I agree. The military has no place for poofters, queens, fairies, and dykes. It’s bad enough that they have women aboard combat ships who are either tramps or dykes.

If this is what you truly believe about God, then you are hopelessly lost. If this is what the majority of the military believes, then the military is lost. If this is what our Country has begun to believe, then we as a nation are lost.

I’ve seen comments and thoughts exactly like yours in more than one place and they seem fairly common among most of the current generation of people in the service. I am afraid that Fred Phelps may be our modern day Balaam when he says the things that he does.

There’s no doubt that Phelps is a false prophet, but what if what he’s saying in this instance is true? What if we’re under a curse because we, as a nation, turned our backs on the truth? I’ve heard other, well respected, preachers saying the same things; saying that God has turned away from us and is turning us over to judgment for our sins. What if this is true? I have no doubt that individually we haven’t been abandoned, but I wonder if Psalms 9:17 isn’t being put into action on a national scale. After all, we’re not Israel and we don’t have the promise of survival if we turn our backs on Him.

Thoughts?

You make a good point. Has anyone considered that maybe bullies, in many cases, are of God’s purpose to tell someone to repent and turn? Maybe those who commit suicide are those who refused to heed God’s loving warnings, and, like Judas Iscariot, finally end it in hopeless despair.

"You have those that go into that area with no problem, and those who cannot."

Defact N0-GO areas of America for Whites is accurately described here. Not that many of us WANT to go there, but it's just interesting that pre Civil Rights there were many places Blacks couldn't go, and now there are essentially none. We have traded places, and whites are now hated, hunted, preyed upon, discriminated against by both private companies and public policy and even excluded from entire neighborhoods. What is the solution? I really wish I had a clever idea, but I dont'.

The media is slow to report race or motives. Law enforcement and the media tend to try and be PC. This is not going to work. People are outraged and the anger is growing about the black violence on whites in Iowa. Reading the blogs and comments on news sites, its clear that some think they will have to take things into their own hands. That’s going to lead to major problems.

Yes,it will be a major problem for whites when the State-run media begins to report that blacks are being victimized in Iowa. All will be labled as racists and there will be little if any reporting of the incidents that led to the white man kicking some ****** ass!!

“We’ve got to, as the law changes, implement and get on with it.”

Get on with it? Immoral law is no law.

How about get on with frag-gin the queers while they sleep in their tents. “Implement” that policy and the problem will solve itself.

These freaks should be shouted down, and be forced to crawl back beneath the slimy rock they came out from under. They are sick individuals whose political activities will bring down this nation, because the rest of us do not take the action necessary to stop them.

The only way this garbage is going to stop is when real mean stand up and forcefully end this absurdity by whatever means possible. Tolerance? Here’s tolerance... the tolerance of the rifling in my 30-06 that will make sure the target is effectively engaged with one shot.

Those who foist this debauchery on American soldiers should be rounded up and publicly executed. and I don’t care what level of power or prestige they hold. Permanently end their ability to make decisions and be a threat to our civilization. We will end our problems in one week.

I have no idea what your experience with Free Republic has been like but mine has fine. I haven't seen any threads using racial taunts or slurs nor have I seen seen any "hatred" that is different in any way from what I have seen on any partisan political site (and the language is much, much less abusive on FR). But CU is not the place to discuss your unhappiness with FR.

Yes, I believe stories like the OP are made up or so embellished that a witness would not recognize the interaction. I stated why I thought this particular story was false.

Sure, so do we all. But most normal people avoid conflict and confrontation in public places. We're busy, we have lives, and when we run errands we're not looking for "teachable moments." So when it happens it's usually brief, awkward, and even if you do your best to extract yourself from the situation it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

I would believe these stories if they were like:

"I was chatting with my friend a bit too loudly in the line at the grocery store about politics, and then I overheard someone else talking about my conversation and how they disagreed, which I remarked to my friend. The two groups then realized we were talking about each other, exchanged forced smiles, and left"
