I saw this earlier on DU. You can imagine their comments:

Yeah, it's kinda creeptacular how reminiscent of Nazi rallies that RNC pic is.

RNC stage looks like a Hitler backdrop to me. It is a really cold stark looking thing.

Goose steps and an Aztec sacrifice.

The DNC stage looks kind of like the entrance to an extreme amusement park ride.

Strange that images of the United States Flag would evoke such comments. Yet they wonder why their patriotism is constantly being questioned.

Well, Saint Obama is being hailed as a rock star!

Or like one of those cable comedy shows. Bill Mahr? Jon Stewart?

It looks like a vision of 2008 from someone in 1988.

Holy shit I had the same thought when I saw it, too! It looks quite fascist.
I don't know what it is, but mostly the American flags every fucking where. I mean what's the point of filling the whole stadium with them, jeez.

Our flag is an offense to them. No surprises.

I think they're both pretty good. Personally I find the DNC one inviting and embracing of the audience while the RNC is more authoritarian looking.

The RNC one is for winners, the DNC one is for whiners.........

The bright colors are to distract the attendees attention from the issues, or lack thereof.

It doesn't matter. No one will remember either one five minutes after the conventions are over.

The DNC one looks like a pop concert, and the RNC one could kind of look like a Nazi rally if the flags were different.

A flamboyant gameshow stage for a flamboyant Führer. The DNC stage certainly reflects Obama's "Hollywood celebrity" image.

I prefer the more respectable and dignified RNC stage.

My favorite PUMA board is calling this "Cirque du Solame," and other person asked "Where do Simon, Randy and Paula sit?"

They both are nice in different ways.

I like the Republican one better. Sharp lines and clean.
The flag is what is most important and is the highlight of the display.

The democrats have a nice set up - for a high school prom. It kind of looks like a starry night or something. It's nice, but not what I would pick for a political event.

If anything, the DNC stage looks more like some Hollywood awards show than one to pick their nominee.

Did anyone else notice that the party that shuns jingoistic symbolism had to make their stage four times as red white and blue as the republicans?

Overcompensating?

If the concept illustration is accurate, the RNC stage look fascist largely due to the red flooring. Combined with the grey and black, it looks quite sinister. It needs more blue.

The DNC stage looks like a bridge of a starship. It looks pretty cool.

I've never posted on DU. And I didn't actually live in K-town itself, just a huge fan of FCK when I lived in Germany.

A large part of the Democratic base is going to be quite upset that the DNC didn't make the rainbow according to the approved colors:

From that link from the DU forums, they're not upset with the stage at all. In fact, they love it.
