WASHINGTON (AP) — Nearly a week before the Thanksgiving travel crush, federal air security officials were struggling to reassure rising numbers of fliers and airline workers outraged by new anti-terrorism screening procedures they consider invasive and harmful.

Across the country, passengers simmered over being forced to choose scans by full-body image detectors or probing pat-downs. Top federal security officials said Monday that the procedures were safe and necessary sacrifices to ward off terror attacks.

"It's all about security," Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said. "It's all about everybody recognizing their role."

Despite officials' insistence that they had taken care to prepare the American flying public, the flurry of criticism from private citizens to airline pilots' groups suggested that Napolitano and other federal officials had been caught off guard.

Appointing her as Fatherland Security Secretary led directly to the governorship of Jan Brewer and the adoption of Arizona's nifty harass Mexicans law.

Plus as far as I can tell she really hasn't done dick as secretary unless you count draconian travel restrictions.

It goes back to the opinion that we don't really see a difference in the two parties - we are separated by rulers and the ruled. Can't let the natives get uppity.

DU doesn't want any security at the airport.

Of course if something did happen, DU will find some way to blame everyone but themselves ( even thou it was their stupid to do it) :rolleyes:

I don't fly much for business anymore but I did got through a full body scan in Nashville this past September. No biggie, if anything if seemed to take longer but the TSA people had just started using it that week.

Unless the rules change you go thru the scan or the pat down. Period. Don't like it? Take a train or drive. :p:D

I don't know... a part of me says it's no big deal. Another part of me says that this is the point where we've given up to many civil liberties for the sake of safety.

And do you really think the Feds are going to stop with the porn body scanners? When has our Federal government not turned any liberty encroachment molehill into a mountain in the last century. Hell, any government in this country for that matter.

They did not stop at putting seat belts in cars, they made you wear them.
They did not stop at smoking on planes, now it is almost impossible to light up anywhere in public. They will finish that soon enough and then go after everywhere else.
Can't but Sudafed over the counter anymore cause you might start a meth lab.
