(CNSNews.com) – Cutting “voluntary” funding from the United Nations would trim $300 million off the federal deficit by 2015, according to a draft report from the president’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform.

“According to the Office of Management and Budget, the United States provided over $6.3 billion in taxpayer funds to the United Nations in FY2009. Less than half ($2.7 billion) of that total went to ‘assessed’ dues -- payments that the United States is charged for being a member and for its share of peacekeeping operations around the world,” the draft report says.

“The United States is by far the largest donor to the United Nations in terms of assessed dues,” the draft continued. “However, the United States gives the United Nations more than $3.5 billion in ‘voluntary’ funds each year. This option allows the United States to remain a member in good standing of the United Nations by contributing the full dues that will be assessed, but reduces voluntary payments by 10 percent, which will save $300 million per year.”

President Barack Obama established the commission earlier this year to address the escalating national debt that has reached $13.6 trillion and a federal deficit that now stands at $140.4 billion.

The 18-member commission includes members appointed by the president and members from each party in the House and Senate leadership. A final report, due on Dec. 1, must have the approval of 14 out of 18 members.

Plus quit funding stupid shit like the World Bank to provide funding to the tune of hundreds of millions for Hugo to drill in the offshore area of Venezuela. How idiotic can that be?

Don't even let them stay. Why give assholes like Chavez, Nutjobinadinnerjacket, the Castro brothers and all the other whack jobs, dictators and self proclaimed monarchs a reason to step foot in this country?

The only reason they should be here is to be tried and thrown in prison, not to proselytize against our country, government and way of life.

They like the United Nutjobs so much, let them host it and pay for it.

No, No, No! You are looking at this from an ideological perspective. The reality is we cannot arrest these "diplomats." We can however charge them for every single thing. I see no problem with Mr. 11 cent /gallon gas and can't supply my people with toilet paper with $10.00 bottles of water and 3000.00 dollar hotel rooms. They don't like it? Leave!

The Shoe is going to lead the peace keepers.

Just cut the electricity and water off. The rats will be scampering then.

Why, it should remind them of home?

Its international territory, so effectively we'd be declaring war on the world. Highly unlikely that anybody would get shot but its just a stupid gesture.

How would you feel if Guantanamo Bay were taken from us?

Relieved, we still have Florida. Oh by the way, it isn't U.S. property, we have a "Lease" on it.

I'm with you, I dont like it either.

But the reality is if somebody invaded Gitmo all of CU would jointly enter bloodlust mode and demand bombings.

I would be one of the ones calling for the bombings, even though the land does not belong to the U.S. those are our Marines.

The building may be international territory, but not the airports they land at, the roads they drive on or the hotels they sleep in. Those are US territory.

Unless they can perfect the Star Trek transporter, there is no way for them to get into or out of the building without touching US soil.

And as far as "declaring war on the world", why should most of us give a flying burrito brother? Most of these corruptocracies have declared war on us in all but the most literal meaning of the word.

I say we beat them to it. Pull out our troops and bomb all of Gitmo until it looks like the rest of Cuba.

The detainees, of course, would be free to stay.
In fact, I have often thought that a solution to the detainee problem would be to open the gate and lead them at gunpoint onto Cuban soil. Let Fidel and Raul deal with them.
