The federal government today indicted former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his father Bernard Kilpatrick, city contractor Bobby Ferguson, former top Kilpatrick aide Derrick Miller and former water department chief Victor Mercado as part one of the largest public corruption investigations ever in the City of Detroit.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced the charges in a news release but did not provide indictment papers or details. Officials have scheduled a news conference for 4 p.m.

Ferguson’s lawyer Gerald Evelyn said he could not comment now, but said the announced press conference and indictments were out of the ordinary for federal prosecutors.

“But then again, this is dealing with Kwame Kilpatrick and none of the rules are the same.”

Pittsburg first!

This is good, though, for the city. He needs to be put away for as long as possible. I still am hoping that they get him for the murder of the stripper, though.

Pittsburgh's Finest? (http://fiveprime.org/hivemind/Tags/abandoned,pittsburgh)

Would you care to compare Detroit with Philadelphia which is a closer demographic match?

Actually I've been there several times. I have close friends who live in the burbs - West Bloomfield. He USED to work for GM - left before the shit hit the fan and works for a Nav company - as an engineer. She's a lawyer who is now a stay at home mom.

The place is flat and UGLY.

2 things -

1 most of those pics are from dead mill town suburbs of Pittsburgh not pittsburgh itself.

2 most of those pics are VERY out of date. I spotted 4 right off the top that are way out of date.

Now if you wanna actually see Pittsburgh - http://pittsburghskyline.com/

It's not really that dangerous for visitors, mainly it's dangerous for the residents. I live just north of the border, and it's pretty safe in my neighborhood. Whether I'm in the city or the burbs, I'm a single woman who is frequently going alone to places, so I'm always careful.
