Obama speech stage resembles ancient Greek temple (http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSN2636979020080826)

DENVER (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's big speech on Thursday night will be delivered from an elaborate columned stage resembling a miniature Greek temple.

The stage, similar to structures used for rock concerts, has been set up at the 50-yard-line, the midpoint of Invesco Field, the stadium where the Denver Broncos' National Football League team plays.

Some 80,000 supporters will see Obama appear from between plywood columns painted off-white, reminiscent of Washington's Capitol building or even the White House, to accept the party's nomination for president.

He will stride out to a raised platform to a podium that can be raised from beneath the floor.

Once Obama speaks, confetti will rain down on him and fireworks will be fired off from locations around the stadium wall.

Invesco was the only place big enough for his ego.

This is such a bad idea that even some DUers are worried about it. Arugula was bad enough, but Greek columns?

It seems like Obama needs to underscore his complete lack of preparation for the job with larger and larger props. I don't know what the Democrats are thinking (although someone mentioned it was supposed to look like the Lincoln Memorial where MLK gave his famous speech), but the GOP is going to have a fucking field day with this.

And so will I. :D

The nomination had to be held outside. Much easier for Obama to descend from heaven on pillars of light and a chorus of angels that way.

I predict this production is going to backfire badly on Obama.

I'm from Illinois and although I've never voted for him, I thought he was a likeable guy back when he ran for the Senate. But the past few months I've come to dislike him in the extremes....and it's because of all his "I'm so special" stunts like this Greek temple nonsense.

Well, he certainly scares me. Maybe because I'm an old lady and easily scared.
But then, maybe because he's IS frightening.

He thinks he's a god.
He's extremely close to being POTUS.
I find it frightening.

I guess he's gonna get carried in on a sedan chair lifted by typical white people.

A nice touch would be Hillary out in front throwing rose petals.

And ya gotta have a rainbow over the stage...:D

Brother, does this guy have an inferiority complex or what? Why does he need to
surround himself with 70,000+ fans???

Proper Attire For The Temple Of Obama (“The Barackopolis”)

Re: Proper Attire For The Temple Of Obama (“The Barackopolis”)

Today, workers at Invesco Field are putting the final touches on the newest wonder of the modern political world -- The Temple of Obama (“The Barackopolis”). It is upon this pulpit that Barack Obama will tomorrow night address thousands of screaming, adoring fans.

There may be some confusion among the press about the venue and appropriate dress code for Barack Obama's big speech. To help out, we wanted to provide the following tips on appropriate attire. The toga may have gone out of style centuries ago, but after Obama's temple speech tomorrow night, they’re sure to be flying off the racks.

Suggested Toga Styles:

The Nobleman -- This toga is recommended for men. For celebrities and lobbyists, please add the red over toga. One should expect to see such stars as Ben Affleck dress in red robes, along with the lobbyists who fill Invesco Field's skyboxes.

Read the whole memo here.
