TENSIONS between supporters of embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and opposition protesters have boiled over with violent clashes breaking out on Cairo's Tahrir Square, injuring more than 500 people.

Several thousand supporters of Mubarak, including some riding horses and camels and wielding whips, attacked anti-government protesters on Wednesday as Egypt's upheaval took a dangerous new turn.In chaotic scenes, the two sides pelted each other with stones, and protesters dragged at least six pro-Mubarak attackers off their animals and beat them.
