GOODWATER, Ala. DEVELOPING: There's been a shooting in a courtroom in the east Alabama town of Goodwater.

Coosa County emergency management director Lester Sellers says the shots were fired Thursday morning. Sellers says he doesn't know whether anyone was hurt. He says he also doesn't know whether the shooting happened in a municipal court or a satellite building of a county court.

Goodwater's municipal court is connected to City Hall, where a person tells WSFA-TV that two shots were heard.

The town of 1,500 is about 60 miles north of Montgomery.

An update at the original link:

A county coroner says one person has been hurt in a shooting at a municipal court in central Alabama, but no one was killed.

Coosa County Coroner Alan Wingfield says the wounded person was rushed to a hospital, but there was no immediate word on his or her condition.

Frank Teel says the shooting happened during municipal court in Goodwater, although it's unclear whether cases were being heard at the time. His brother, attorney Carlton Teel, serves as the city judge and was in the building.

Not a whole lot of news about it here in Alabama. I have been looking. http://www.AL.com is linked to several newspapers in Alabama and there is not a lot of information out right now.

A preliminary investigation of a shooting at Goodwater City Hall indicates that at approximately 9:39 a.m. today, a defendant attacked the Municipal Court judge and attempted to forcibly obtain a firearm when he was shot by a Goodwater police officer who was providing courtroom security, according to a Department of Public Safety press release.

Okay, so we've established that he was a felon who assaulted a police officer or some other person who was authorized to carry in the courthouse and tried to take his weapon, and was shot in the attempt. Clearly, this demands government action to further restrict the number of guns carried in courthouses, and he was obviously influenced by talk radio.
