View Full Version : Why the Left Hates Sarah Palin

By Robin of Berkeley
When I was ten years old, I participated in an act of unadulterated group evil. It happened at a sleep-away camp in the Catskill Mountains.

Starting in third grade, I was shipped off to this summer camp for three months at a time. Although I was in no way ready to be so far from home, my parents wanted the summers free and clear -- so I was whisked away, like hundreds of other Camp Tawonga kids.

I lived in a bunk with a gaggle of other girls, with two teenagers to oversee us. Since our counselors were more absorbed in the male staff than in us, we girls had the run of the house.

One day, my bunkmates decided to punish Barbara, a popular and confident child. The masterminds held Barb down while a few others stripped off her clothes. Barbara struggled and screamed as the rest of us watched, transfixed. The details are blessedly murky, but they involve mocking Barbara and grabbing at her body.

Although I wasn't a major player, I also did nothing to stop the madness, which shames me to this day. I even recall feeling a strange, wicked thrill surging through my body. Now that I analyze it, it was the maniacal power of sadism -- and evil.

I've always wondered why Barbara was chosen to be tortured, and not a nerdy girl instead. But after beholding the horrible treatment of Sarah Palin, I finally understand: Barb was a sweet and happy and innocent child. The leaders of the pack wanted to knock her down from her high horse.

My mind flashed to this awful memory after hearing that Palin was being scapegoated for the Tucson Massacre. Palin has been a target of the left's wrath from the moment she was nominated for vice president. Many conservatives have tried to explain why.

Some say it's jealousy, which is true; Palin is a lovely woman with a handsome husband. She's also a self-made woman; Palin has risen to power on her own, without the coattails of husband or father.

Some conservatives believe that the hatred is a result of brainwashing; this is true, as well. Liberals respond robotically, like Pavlov's dogs, whenever Palin's name is uttered.

But there's a darker reason for the abject hatred of Palin, and the clues can be found in that Catskill Mountains bunk. Because evil can manifest when people project their own badness and shame onto another.

People on the left hate Palin for one simple reason: because she is everything they are not. She is their polar opposite because her life journey has diverged from the prescribed liberal path.

Palin was raised to be self-sufficient and independent since "idle hands are the devil's tools." Little Sarah was up at the crack of dawn, hunting with her dad; in sharp contrast, liberal kids like me were still fast asleep.

Palin didn't have life handed to her on a silver platter, like so many in the ruling class. Instead, Sarah balanced school, chores, jobs, and sports. While liberal girls like me were glued to the boob tube, Sarah had no time for sloth.

Palin attended church with her family on Sundays. On Sunday morning, young liberals like me were recovering from Saturday night.

From her devout Christian upbringing, Sarah learned to be a good girl. In contrast, I learned everything I needed to know about how to be a modern girl from the monthly Playboy Magazine, which was conspicuously displayed on our living room table.

Sarah dated and then married her high school sweetheart; I learned that my body was a commodity that I "owned." And I could use my body -- and allow it to be used -- to temporarily still the pangs of loneliness.

There's a lyric from a Matt Maher song that always moves me to tears. It's when he cries out to God: "Where were You when sin stole my innocence?"

When I hear these words, an unspeakable pain cuts through me. I feel the ache of something stolen from me -- something precious, never quite recovered. And there are countless others out there, similarly robbed, though they have no idea what has gone missing.

And then, out of the blue, Sarah Palin, like a majestic bird in flight, swooped onto the scene of a depraved and deprived nation. With her children and grandchild, her religion and her patriotism, Sarah is the antithesis of everything the progressives stand for. Palin is not just pro-life, but she emanates life -- and good, clean living.

And what does the left do? They try to drag her through the mud to sully her. The hardcore among them want to eliminate her, even if this means putting her life at risk.

The progressives "joke" about gang-rape, make pornographic movies about her, and leer at her legs. (Would any of this be tolerated against Michelle Obama?)

Palin's church was torched during the primary, a vicious crime that was hushed up by the MSM. And now, with the smears about Tucson, death threats against Palin have soared.

Yes, leftists attack Palin because they envy her beauty; and true, she's a political threat. But the main reason for the hatred is something deeper and darker.

Leftists loathe Palin because she has retained something that was stripped from them years ago: a wholesomeness, a purity of heart. People on the left despise Palin because she shines a bright light on their shame and unworthiness, which they try desperately to deny.

The progressives, like that brutal gang of abandoned girls, want to drag Palin down into the gutter with them; they want to spoil her. Of course, their efforts will be futile; Palin is fueled by a Spirit that isn't simply her own.

The left knows only how to point fingers, and threaten, and menace. Why? They are lost, abandoned children as well; they have shunned the only Force who could wash them clean and bring them home again.

Wonderfully written.

I am a Palin admirer and have read - or listened to, rather, since she reads it herself - her book, "Going Rogue". And I think I have good feel for who she is.
I think she's genuinely the way she says she is.
But I also feel she's pulling one over on the liberals in that I think she has already made up her mind not to run for President in '12. She's not saying, of course, and I believe that is the method she is using to allow them to destroy themselves while she comes out unharmed.
The liberals are terrified. They express their terror by accusing her of nut ball crimes, and ludicrous actions. When she was Governor the lawsuits arrived almost daily. She left and the howling grew louder. And she's letting them - no, she's encouraging them to - howl.
She knows all this howling from the left will turn off some of the moderates. And the moderates are the only ones who matter. I don't really matter in a way, because I will always vote for the conservative candidate. The left doesn't matter because their vote is unavailable to any conservative candidate, so it serves us all well if Palin continues doing what she is doing.
The left will whine about Palin's "snuff films" where she shoots a caribou, and then (gasp) eats it! They will sneer when she goes camping in the cold rain. They will accuse when Trig is shown, and they will say, "Not her baby!" They will attack her children. They scream in agony when she wries a book and it sells (Obama's didn't).
Let 'em. It works to our benefit. It will allow the moderate voters a clear view of the people they are proposing to sleep with.
It's sort of like when Nancy called us all "Astro Turf". Cost Nancy her job.

Very good article about Palin. They don't hate her because of who she is, but because of who they used to be.

I'm one who doesn't like her, but I also don't like a lot of the attacks on her. I hate the way the media treats female politicians in general, whether it's Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton.

I think Tina Fey's impersonation is funny, I think Jon Stewart's humor about her is funny, but those are not nasty jokes at her expense. Her words and her tweets are fair game to make fun of, her kids and grandchild are not.

Especially those disgusting individuals who said that she should have aborted Trig. Yeah, those nice civil liberals.

The construct that all the people who dislike you are secretly envious of you is generally the province of junior high school.

Most people who dislike Sarah Palin do so because she comes off as corny and dimwitted. She is not Sally Sorority. We may dislike Sally Sorority (aka closer to Ann Coulter) but it is for entirely different reasons. I happen to like Ann Coulter which is part of the reason I dislike Sarah Palin.

I think there's something to this analysis. "Wholesome" isn't a word you hear very often these days but Palin really shines with a wholesome quality. I've never understood the vicious attacks against her but Robin may have nailed it.

Almost no politicians have a wholesome quality about them and certainly no female politicians on the Left have it. In real life, I've seen wholesomeness attacked for no better reason than it is a quality that the attackers can never attain and can't understand. They are too cynical and their experience is just too....unwholesome.

Which is exactrly the mentality and maturity level of your average Democrat party voter.

She doesn't come off as dimwitted if you actually listen to her, instead of the media caricature. As for her being corny, that's another word for wholesome. She isn't a hip, sophisticated, cosmopolitan Beltway type, but the antithesis of them.

Hence Nova's characterization of her as "corny." In fact, just seeing the word made me wonder, so I checked out Thesaurus.com and found that one of the synonyms was "chaste", which used to be a high complement. I've bolded the words that apply to her.

Main Entry: chaste
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: pure, incorrupt
Synonyms: austere, celibate, clean, continent, controlled, decent, decorous, elegant, immaculate, impotent, inexperienced, innocent, intemerate, modest, monogamous, moral, neat, platonic, proper, prudish, quiet, refined, restrained, simple, spotless, stainless, subdued, unaffected, unblemished, uncontaminated, undefiled, unstained, unsullied, unwed, vestal, virginal, virtuous, wholesome
Now, think of the average Democratic woman, especially in the media, and check out the antonyms:

Antonyms: corrupt, defiled, dirty, lewd, unchaste, wanton
Don't those words apply to most leftist feminist icons and media personalities? Especially the media personalities: Cathy Griffin, who seems to have a special animus to Palin, seems to embody those antonyms. Madonna? Cher? Rachel Maddow? The women on The View? Ditto.

Which is exactrly the mentality and maturity level of your average Democrat party voter.

What is it about a strong willed intelligent woman that scares the crap out of you lefties?

The strong-willed and intelligent parts. :D

I'm somewhat tired of the "corny" criticisms. Millions of people don't live in urban squalor. To write off millions of people as "stupid" just because we can't buy a pizza or crack at 3:00 a.m. is prejudicial in all the worst ways.

The difference between urban and rural people is not that we are less sophisticated, stupider, or more naive; it's that we have more skill sets than the average urban-dweller. That's it.

If Sarah Palin had moved to Oxford Alabama and married a stock car racer would anyone accuse her of being wholesome?

Oh, please. She was a successful governor (before the left targeted her with fake ethics violations and paralyzed her administration with legal fees), a successful mayor and headed the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. She's not a lightweight, but since you think that she is, and are grinding your organ at the thought of her, perhaps you could explain exactly why you consider her worthy of such insulting comments.

Sure, I'd be surprised. Palin has an established family, even if she became bored with her husband, breaking up a family doesn't seem like her style. By all accounts, she adores Alaska. Moving to Alabama seems out of character.

Of course, I don't hear an accent and immediately leap to the conclusion that the speaker is deficient in a number of intellectual qualities. I guess that's just the way we roll out here in the sticks.

Palin has a Bachelors in Journalism...she's been a city council member a Mayor and a Governor BEFORE she was the VP candidate on a Republican ticket.

She's also run her own business.

If she had done nothing else with her life...that right there gave her infinately more qualification to be in the political arena than the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avnue.

Ann Coulter is a lawyer that clerked for a Supreme Court Justice and a very successful author.

Yet you feel compelled to take unsubstantiated pot shots at them.

Again let me ask you...what is it about strong willed intelligent...and successful women that scares the hell out of you like it does.

Isn't that just peachy. The media and Democrats try to destroy her not with just words but by their actions. She keeps fighting back and that just blows their ever loving mind. Repubs are not noted for giving tit for tat. Most are like a bunch of weak kneeded pansies. She scares the shit out of them with her common sense approach to government.
