http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphics/AT07/refresh/AL0708W5_sm2+gif/203214W_sm.gifBush could be much too busy in a short while to worry about Florida. You forgot Poland ,Georgia, and NATO .If that flares up they will move US troops from all over the world to support Poland and other NATO country's.We may be getting out of IRAQ and Afghanistan much quicker than they originally planned .

Now Russia is asking China for support at the UN and who knows what China will demand in return.
We are nose to nose with the Russian Navy in the black sea and just one mistake and who knows what will happen.China is much stronger at sea than Russia but logistics may be tough. You can bet that the Joint Chiefs are watching this very closely and lots of 688's and Boomers are at sea and on full alert !

Boo on you. I don't ever want to live in a place where the population doubles overnight. That's what happened in Baton Rouge. From 7am till 10pm at night the traffic was unbearable. However, it did increase my property value by 25% within a week. It was unbelievable. It was a madhouse here for about a year. Being without electricity and 95 degree weather for 6 days was a piece of cake.

Bush is going to complete the job this time:If those NO fuckwits haven't made contingency plans, then the hell with them.If they dont have an evac plan and ops plan in place...then they deserve whatever it is Nature throws at them.

They've had warning, they've had time, they've had the money..and I am guessing soon all they will have left is excuses.

Behind me on a shelf is the ops plan for this entire city, down to where the library books will go. I helped write part of it.

The city is not designating a shelter, this time (so no horrors inside the superdome, this time around). According to Bobby Jindal, the governor, the plan is to totally evacuate the city this time. At least, that's what they were saying on the news this morning.

Again? I've always wanted to see New Orleans, but do we have to rebuild it this time? The city's going under water as it is.

Even if we give them a mulligan on Katrina, there should be no overwhelming support for the fools who make no attempt to get out. I bet you the donations will be half of what was given last time.

Am I the only person who is not getting any form of glee over Gustav/RNC?

A major storm may hit an unprepared city (again). I'd rather see the repugs have the bestest convention ever than NOLA and the region to go through that again.

It wasn't Bushes fault about New Orleans during Katrina.

Blame the Gov and the Mayor of New Orleans.

That is what we have local and state officials for.

Last time the GOV. didn't request help until too late.

Both the Gov. and the Mayor were democrats.

Lets see what happens this time - with Jindal (R) as Gov.

Better, I bet.

Amen. Those that sat on their butts and wandered over to the superdome expecting free meals and shelter ... lazy ass' who won't have that option this time.

What government agency has spent the bulk of money to rebuild the levies?

On top of that, I met a woman who had left before Katrina and reloated to Albany, Ga. She told me that her mother had stayed behind. I couldn't resist, I had to ask, "Right after the storm, there were reports of rape, murders, and looting. A few days later, the media said it didn't happen. So, which was it?" Her response, "According to my mother, it was worse than they ever reported it to begin with."

There was a truck driver, who has his insurance with us, that was hauling FEMA trailers to NO. He dropped one off and by the time he made it back, the first one was burnt to the ground. The fucker who got a free place to live said he didn't want a trailer, he wanted a house.

Fuck 'em, fuck em right in there ear hole.

If they get out in time, will the hurricane spare their homes?

Some of you all act like getting out actually makes a difference in regards to whether they'll need money. It doesn't unless we're talking rescue missions.

Save it, I write Homeowners insurance everyday. If your home is not insured, that's your problem. If you rent, there is a policy for that as well. I feel no pity for anyone who sits on their ass and does nothing for themselves. If a person truly needs help, I have no problem, but able bodied people have no excuses in my book. If you can work, you can afford HO insurance.

Well if Gustav does become a major hurricane and direct hits NO you'd have to be brain dead to stay in the city. There is only 2 kinds of people who would stay, fucking idiots and looters in waiting. Oh, I take it back, there are 3 types of people. The third type is someone who lives in a part of the city that didn't flood the 1st time and wants to protect their property from types 1 and 2.

And as far as the levee's go, they could be built to take a CAT 5 and all it'd take is a barge busting loose and smashing into one and /BAM/ instant repeat of Katrina. Of course the DUmmies would say Lord Rove personally cut the lines but hey...:D

That map shows landfall west of the city. No big deal. Even a head-on is doable. The path that Katrina took, just east of the city, is the killer. Bush, Obama, McCain, whoever; a hurricane just east of the city has it's rotation pushing Lake Pontchartrain into the city. That is a no-win for anyone.

Baton Rouge was the staging area for FEMA with Katrina. Let me know if you are coming here and I will treat you to the best seafood resturant in town or buy you a beer. Your choice.

It wouldn't matter who rebuilt the levees, the people down there are so damned crooked that money is being pocketed right and left.

Probably the Corps of Engineers,Shaw group. It won't matter, too much local graft.

I was assigned out of Baton Rouge for Katrina but then detached to Alexandria doing security stuff in Central LA for the duration.

Food and beer is ALWAYS a plus. I'll PM ya later Lac. :)

I have to nail down a ton of loose ends before Saturday morning, but it looks like they are processing the first wave of us in through NOLA and then scooting us inland for assignments before Gus makes landfall.
