California Activist Proposes Wealth Tax and Probably Unconstitutional Exit Tax
"
" And If You Leave California They Size 55% Of Everything Over $20 Million !"

Earlier this month, a California activist began gathering signatures to put a state wealth tax on the ballot. The measure would impose a new 35% income surtax (in addition to federal taxes and the existing 10.3% top state rate), and penalize people who leave the state by seizing 55% of assets exceeding $20 million.
The money raised would be used to eliminate the state's budget deficit and for purchasing controlling shares in large corporations.

The 17.5% surtax is unusual because it would be on a taxpayer's total (not marginal) income whenever it exceeds $250,000, with another additional 17.5 percent tax...

Meh. Won’t happen. What will happen is the new sales tax - which, considering it will directly hit the illegals in my state, will be the lesser of two evils.

Buried somewhere in this legislation is a provision to charge a $30k fee to build a house over a certain amount. The lunatics in CA are coming out of the wood-works. If only Arnuld and the liberal state legislators would allow offshore drilling, the idiots could stave off bankruptcy. Looks like another bail out like NY. People are leaving these two states because of high taxes in droves.

You are correct about that part because the Feds & the S.C. forbids and have ruled the restriction of interstate commerce is illegal but that will not stop the wacky wackos from trying. However, sales tax alone will not cure the 15 billion dollar deficit. So along with sales taxes going up, every tax under the sun (individual & business) will be going up. You better start packing:eek:

They always go into my pocket
And find all my loot where I've socked it.
Despite all my labor
I've nothing to savor.
There's nothing to do but to mock it.

What's with the limericks lately?
Is it the only expression to sate thee?
I know Hillary lost,
and you feel double-crossed,
but that's no reason to resort to poetry.

Also, there is no way this tax would survive a challenge under the US Constitution.

I find myself sad at this time
I can only express it in rhyme.
With Barry in power
The delegates cower.
The press is just toeing the line.

And no one is looking at Ayers
Or Rezco or FISA; or fears
That Barry's not ready;
He's done nothing steady.
Oh, what will he do with four years!

Does "Ayers" really rhyme with "fears"?

I had always pronounced it "airs."

Illegals - foreign nationals - tourists - everyone would pay then! :) And people would pay on what they consume rather than on what they make! How blissful would that be?

Holy shit just don't bring them to Arizona! These socialist transplants in AZ are more likely to proffer up money in support of, and vote for the same 'ol laws that drove them out of California in the first place. It's like they are all sadomasochists'! They fought for their right to suffer under socialism for so long, they have to come here and fund the same bullshit! It's almost as if these idiots believe socialism will stop when their own interests are satisfied. Arizona should consider Californian immigration reform. Forget the Mexicans, at least they are capitalists, start shutting out the Californians. The idea of the 'spread of communism' was no joke. We Arizonan's feel it every year when sun birds come from CA, don't go home, and decide to make AZ more like home. It's almost like Florida only with a less competent state legislature.

They just can't admit that they were wrong. It's typical leftist disconnect from reality. They refuse to see the natural results of their stances - socially and economically.

Na, what you/we need to worry about is that the Perata libs in Sacremento are crafting a proposition to change California"s 2/3 legislature vote to raise taxes.

I don't want a turn! Do I have the option to pass? Seriously, the voting population of Arizona is being infiltrated with California transplants. This is nothing new, it's been happening since I moved here when I was 15. Now, however, they've gained enough transplant numbers to start influencing policy, and it's beginning to worry me. , Arizona is probably one of, if not the, most conservative state in the Union. I don't mean conservative like religious fundamentalism social conservative, but more like the "leave people the hell alone" brand of conservatism. That's we give our peace officers AR15's, that's we allow CCW holders to carry on campus, that's why we have very strict controls on so-called 'imminent domain' land seizures. Since this influx of Californians over the past 15 years we have seen increases in tax funded health care increases, and tax-funded infrastructure construction for 'cookie cutter' privately developed subdivisions,

We still do pretty good, and our state congress is majority conservatism, but it's changing. I don't mean more democrats are being elected to state office, I'm saying more republicans are voting left, and letting leftist policies slide.

As a Californian, I should resent that, but I know what you mean. The way you describe Arizona is libertarian. The irony is that Californis is way too expensive for the ordinary person to live in, so many Californians go to Arizona. The problem is they forget why California GOT so impossible economically and they repeat the error.

The left never learns from their mistakes. They constantly think that if they could only try again it will come out better . . . .
