TRENTON — In front of a crowd of thousands of protestors, the president of the state’s largest teachers union accused Gov. Chris Christie of trying to foment a civil war within the middle-class.

“All of New Jersey’s middle-class is hurting, but this governor and his right-wing supporters are trying to start a middle-class civil war,” said New Jersey Education Association President Barbara Keshishian.

As she spoke, thousands of public workers filled the street in front of the Statehouse, wearing ponchos and holding umbrellas to keep as dry as possible in the pouring rain. State Police estimated the crowd at 3,100.

The rally, organized by the state AFL-CIO, was both aimed at pushing back against benefit concessions demanded by Christie, and in support of Wisconsin public unions, who are fighting Gov. Scott Walker’s attempt to roll back their collective bargaining rights.

I wonder when the top Union Exec. are going to realize they are spending great sums of money to bus in, pay for lodging, meals, etc for some of the out of state welders, pipe-fitters, firemen, etc. They surely are not doing it on their dime. It will just be fewer donations for Democrats in 2012

Let them keep protesting. I believe this is a losing proposition for the unions and democrats, and a win for taxpayers in the private sector.

Few reports I've read, looked like the unions were paying homeless people $50 to go and protest to beef up the numbers. So I question the real number of those there protesting that are union.

If we don't do something about all the socialist teachers we will be in serious trouble if it isn't already too late. This is a good excuse to clean house right now.

I would love to see him clamp down on teachers at state universities also. Lots of trash there.
