Ammo found outside Wis. Capitol, site of protests

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Dozens of rounds of live rifle ammunition were found Thursday scattered around the grounds of the Wisconsin Capitol, where large crowds of people have been protesting Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to rescind nearly all collective bargaining rights for most public employee unions.

State attorneys revealed the ammunition discovery during a hearing in Dane County Circuit Court, where unions were asking a judge to lift restricted-access rules that have been in place since Sunday and swing open the doors to the public. State attorneys cited the ammunition while suggesting the building should instead be closed for a security sweep.

State officials said about 100 demonstrators remained in the building Thursday, still ignoring what was a 4 p.m. Sunday deadline for people to depart so the building could be cleaned. Since then, police adopted a policy allowing in new protesters only when an equal number leave the building.

University of Wisconsin Police Chief Susan Riseling testified that 41 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition were found Thursday morning scattered at several locations outside the Capitol. No guns were found with them.

Dane County deputies found 11 rounds near the State street entrance Thursday morning, UW-Madison Police Chief Susan Riseling said. Twenty-nine rounds were found near the King Street entrance, and one round was found near the North Hamilton Street entrance, Riseling said.

Judge orders Capitol restrictions lifted, but bars overnight stays

A judge has ordered about 100 pro-union protesters out of the Wisconsin Capitol when it closes tonight at 6 p.m. CT.

Dane County Judge John Albert said he was banning sleeping at the building and ordering that it be re-opened to the public Friday during normal hours.

The rules are intended to thwart the overnight occupation of the Capitol, which ran for two weeks until the administration began limiting access on Monday. Some die-hard protesters have continued spending the night there this week, although soft materials like pillows and sleeping bags have now been banned.

Administration Secretary Mike Huebsch said it will cost $6 million to restore the interior of the Capitol, including removing all the tape from the marble where thousands of fliers and posters have hung since the protests began Feb. 14 and 15. Huebsch estimated it would cost an additional $1 million to restore the exterior.

I had heard it would cost $7 or 8 million to repair the damages. Ridiculous. Why isn't this on the front pages of the liberal rags?

There is "live ammo" all over my bedroom. None of it is worth a damn without a weapon.

for the same reason the people who made the damages are not going to be made to pay for the damages they committed.

Bullshit it's not. Extremely easy to set that stuff off with the right tools. A hammer and nail, a small fire, etc...

Ammunition is dangerous, and it needs to be treated with the caution that it deserves. *says this as 4 .308 rounds are rolling around on his desk*

They should subtract it from the pension fund.

the trouble there is - you're not just punishing the bastards who actually did the damage. Reality is - they have video footage of a lot of the damage and they should go after the guilty parties.

Because it's GOP BS?

MADISON, Wis., March 4 (UPI aka liberal rag) -- Wisconsin officials conceded Friday round-the-clock protests in the Statehouse in Madison appeared to have done little damage to the building.

During a court hearing Thursday, Republican officials estimated repair costs at $7 million, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

That is a problem when you are part of a collective.

Tell you what, smart guy. Let me glue or tape BB's on the primers of some rifle rounds. You stand on a patch of concrete, and let me toss some of those BB laden rifle shells in your direction and we'll see what happens, K? Then we'll see how worthless they can be.

Stark contrast. Here we have a liberal rally and the mall in DC is left looking like a dump. Then we have the Beck 8/28 rally and those people left the mall probably cleaner than they found it.
