Gov Walker's statement
"The Senate Democrats have had three weeks to debate this bill and were offered repeated opportunities to come home, which they refused. In order to move the state forward, I applaud the Legislature’s action today to stand up to the status quo and take a step in the right direction to balance the budget and reform government. The action today will help ensure Wisconsin has a business climate that allows the private sector to create 250,000 new jobs."
State Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin)
“For nearly three weeks, the Senate Democrats have delayed approval of a badly-needed budget repair bill. The Senate Democrats ignoring their responsibilities as elected officials have ignored repeated efforts to negotiate on the bill. Something needs to be done to balance the budget in the current year and avoid large-scale layoffs of public employees. By approving Senate Bill 11 tonight, Senate Republicans avoid layoff.
About damn time they did something. Though now there are chants for a general strike tomorrow. Let them. If they do, Walker better give them the ultimatum, shut up and go back to work or get fired
