View Full Version : 'Super Moon' May Cause Weather Chaos: Is It Time to Panic?

As if there wasn’t enough to be worried about, what with $7 gas prices on the horizon, Tiki Barber planning an NFL comeback and Mike Huckabee weighing in on Natalie Portman’s unborn child, now we have a "Super Moon" to fret over.

Apparently the sky will be filled by something called a "Super Moon" on March 19 when Earth’s nearest celestial neighbor will come closest to our home planet during a full moon. Sky-watching nerds are warning that this coincidental cosmic event could wreak havoc on the planet, unleashing severe weather patterns, tsunamis and increased seismic and volcanic activity. There was already one Super Moon in February and the March/April event will be followed by a third later this year.

The most recent of the last four Super Moons (1955, 1974, 1992 and 2005) coincided with Hurricane Katrina, which wiped out New Orleans. Coincidence? Super Moon watchers think not! The January 10, 2005 9.0 earthquake in Indonesia also happened during a Super Moon.

On March 19, the moon will be closer to Earth than at any time since 1992, coming within 221,567 miles of our home.

Astrologers (not astronomers, who’ve pooh-pooh’d the warnings of doom) are predicting that the influence of this Super Moon could continue into April as the moon’s gravitational pull increases as it comes closer to the Earth.

Coastal regions are being warned to prepare for strong and high tides. Experts also predict oil and gas disruptions, power disruptions and a wild stock market ride.

But there's always room for a skeptic. Space historian and author Dr. David Harland told England’s Daily Mail that there’s nothing to worry about, calling the Super Moon an “insignificant event.”

"In Matthew 24:29 Jesus described the events of the Day of Judgment, "the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.” Most of the world’s population will die from natural events that come upon the whole solar system, which is why the stars will fall and the planets will shake. But before those events of the Day of Judgment, other less catastrophic events will take place that will serve as warning signs of the coming global destruction. In the book of

Luke chapter 21 Jesus said:

“There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.” (Luke 21:11)

Fearful events and signs of Christ’s return will be seen in this solar system. Later in the same chapter Jesus tells us about the events in the heavens. Whatever these events are, they will cause many people to be in great fear about what is coming upon the world:

“There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.” (Luke 21:25-26)

shouldn't this be in the "end of the world" thread?
