MADISON - State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald says the situation at the Capitol is "unsafe."

Fitzgerald appeared on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Wisconsin's Morning News. He's concerned about the ability for business to take place inside the Capitol.

"Law enforcement is doing the best they can, but they're just undermanned," Fitzgerald said.

The State Assembly is scheduled to be in session at 11:00 a.m. Thursday. Fitzgerald says that could be tough under current conditions. "They're (officers) are having a very difficult time cleaning out, not only the assembly wing, but the rotunda is still full of protesters."

Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald is also urging caution. "I have told my members to not enter the building until we get word that it is safe," Fitzgerald told Newsradio 620 WTMJ.

As to whether Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald is concerned about the safety of legislators and staffers, he's quick to say "Absolutely."

"Senators could not move freely through the building, let alone even get in an elevator last (Wednesday) night to get out of the building," Scott Fitzgerald said.

Even with the chaos, Fitzgerald is appreciative of the efforts of law enforcement, saying "They're doing the best they can, but they're just under-manned."

Protesters forced their way into the Capitol following the senate vote Wednesday night. Fitzgerald says many of those protesters had help getting into the building, claiming "When the Democrat staffers opened the windows for protesters to get in...that's not how democracy is supposed to work."

Undermanned my ass.

Had they done what they were ordered to do a week ago by a judge and clear the building we would be looking at a much different picture. Instead they were letting these thugs in the building with what ever they wanted.

Why is this being allowed to happen? Who do the unions think they're fooling?

Dam anarchists. Mob rule. Terrorize anyone who opposes your entitlements. This is an low point for America. Other countries watch while these fools run rampant.

Why wouldn't you feel that way? Our elites see themselves as a cosmopolitan aristocracy that can ride roughshod over the rest of us, our media presents falsehoods as fact and then sneers at those of us who object and our president dribbles while Egypt and Libya burn.

The staffers who did this should all be arested and fired and FINED to help pay for damages.

The more I see of this issue, the more disgusting it becomes -

One simple fact needs to be brought to light to understand this whole mess - the reason for all of it....

This is the republican strategy to beat Obama in Wisconsin in 2012 - its not about the budget, or even necessarily about unions and their "thuggery" as you all are saying, or about any sort of principle at all. De-fund unions and things become a lot harder for O in WI.

Its about the 2012 election, nothing more, nothing less... and the teachers are the pawns who are basically getting their lives uprooted so the the Republicans can win the state - aint life grand?

Your right Wilbur, you've uncovered our grand Rovian plot. We're making these people act like ass apes so that the election is easier for us to win next year.

Can't get one by you.

And from whom do you keep hearing that these people are scum bag, selfish, destructive, assholes? Who reinforces that narrative? The same people who are unabashedly anti-union, perhaps? Gee, what a surprise it is that they find and report the teachers union in a negative light. Seriously, shocking!

And why are they anti-union? B/C they vote democrat.

Yeah, that's it. It's certainly not because the state is on the verge of bankruptcy and the employment contracts that are negotiated by unions and the politicians that they threaten perpetuate and expand unsustainable costs. No, we're just playing out a political strategy.

And you wonder why we think that you're a lefty.

And from whom do you keep hearing that these people are scum bag, selfish, destructive, assholes? Who reinforces that narrative? The same people who are unabashedly anti-union, perhaps? Maybe it's because they abandoned their jobs (and the kids that they profess to care about) in order to engage in street theatrics, and blatantly lied to their employers (the taxpayers) about being out sick. Maybe it's because the contempt that they are showing for the people who pay for their perks and benefits has finally reached the tipping point, and the people who are struggling in this economy don't appreciate being told that they aren't paying enough to people who make more than they do and enjoy far more lavish benefits than they do.

BTW, why is a supposedly free market guy like yourself a supporter of labor cartels that collude with government to fix the price of their service?

The teachers and bus drivers making 100K a year and whining about having to actually pay for about 1/10th of the total costs of their benefits

The same people throwing a giant temper tantrum at the sate capitol.

The same people who are unabashedly anti-union, perhaps?

I'm still waiting to see this alleged negative reporting on the unions in the MSM that you refer too.

Gee, what a surprise it is that they find and report the teachers union in a negative light. Seriously, shocking!

It's not hard to report the facts.

And the teachers union isn't doing itself any favors.

And why are they anti-union? B/C they vote democrat.

The majority of the citizens are anti-union because they are tired of paying for a lavish lifstyle that they don't get to enjoy...then hearing those that have their life style financed by the majority bitch and moan because they want more.

Sorry, I forgot - the stuff free market guys are supposed to support these days are corporate cartels that collude with the government to fix the price of their services/products. How silly of me.

Wilbur, you seem upset. Have you tried Midol?

As to the discussion at hand, very few people here (and none of the conservatives) support crony capitalism and government controls on markets. Those are leftist positions, at the intersection of fascism and socialism.

And, again, I'm serious about asking this: Why would you, an alleged advocate of free markets, support a labor cartel that colludes with its employers through threats and bribery, to establish a monopoly on government employment, to the detriment of taxpayers?
