Is this the fate of our solar system? The incredible Cat's Eye Nebula captured by the Hubble Telescope

These are the spectacular death throes of a distant star captured through the Hubble telescope.

The Cat's Eye Nebula may be three thousand light years from earth - but its fate is the one that likely awaits our own sun, albeit in about 5 billion years.

As a dying star nears the end of its red giant phase, its outer layers are expelled outwards forming the outer concentric circles seen in the image that stretch for millions of miles.

Death throes: The latest Hubble Telescope image of the Cat's Eye Nebula, which is three thousand light years away from earth. It The concentric circles are the star's outer layers being expelled into outer space.

This explosion exposes the pulsating core of the star.

But the formation of the entrancing blue gas clouds at the centre of the image are not well understood, as the process stems from the inner nuclear reactions of a star that hold the secrets of the formation of the galaxy.

During its lifetime a star emits light from the nuclear fusion reaction that converts hydrogen to helium in a star's core.

When the star's supply of hydrogen begins to runs out, the fusion reaction at its core becomes increasingly unstable and the star begins to expand into the red giant phase.

NGC 6543 is a polanetary nebulae of about five solar masses. polanetary nebulae are composed of adjacent planetary bodys and adjacent binary stars.In an decaying binary system the immense gravity of the dying star sucks the matter from the other and reduces it to a dark dwarf with only the core intact.As this influx of hot nuclear fuel pours down into the core eventually it all ignites in an cresendo of energy blowing the outer layers into space.Gravity is always king so the core shrinks into nuclear soup,a black hole .

The energy source of all stars is the same: gravity. Stars become red giants when they stop hydrogen fusion and heat up dramatically, blowing material outwards and increasing in radius (although the outer part of these stars is very tenuous).

They produce PNs when they start producing energy by unstable fusion reactions, which create energy pulsations strong enough to blow off much of their atmosphere......Spectroscopic analysis shows that the star is currently losing mass in a fast stellar wind at a rate of about 3.2×10−7 solar masses per year—about 20 trillion tons per second .The center core shrinking and will become a monster black hole !

Our stare is much too small to go into supernova .It will eventually turn into a brown dwarf
and fade away .
