The US government is handing out a record number of food stamps, which is one more statistic among many that suggests the recession is far from over for the average American.

According to US government data compiled by the WSJ, 44 million Americans, or 14 percent of the total US population, is on food stamps.

The two states that receive the most food stamps have 20 percent of their population on it and 43 states have over 10 percent of their populations receiving it.

Moreover, the number of people receiving food stamps increased for every state compared to last year....

Maine - 18.4%
West Virginia - 18.6%
Kentucky - 18.7%
Louisiana - 19.1%
Michigan - 19.6%
New Mexico - 19.7%
Tennessee - 19.9%

Mississippi - 20.6%

i know that, personally I think it's bullshit that college kids get food stamps

put from a pure economical standpoint all those states make sense except Maine, even when taking in the other factors Maine still doesn't make sense

Commodities and teaching the recipients how to cook is a better idea.
