Obama and Netanyahu, Distrustful Allies, to Meet

WASHINGTON — As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel heads to the White House on Friday for the seventh meeting since President Obama took office, the two men are facing a turning point in a relationship that has never been warm.

By all accounts, they do not trust each other. President Obama has told aides and allies that he does not believe that Mr. Netanyahu will ever be willing to make the kind of big concessions that will lead to a peace deal.

For his part, Mr. Netanyahu has complained that Mr. Obama has pushed Israel too far — a point driven home during a furious phone call with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday morning, just hours before Mr. Obama’s speech, during which the prime minister reacted angrily to the president’s plan to endorse Israel’s pre-1967 borders for a future Palestinian state.

Mr. Obama did not back down. But the last-minute furor highlights the discord as they head into what one Israeli official described as a “train wreck” coming their way: a United Nations General Assembly vote on Palestinian statehood in September.

Mr. Netanyahu, his close associates say, desperately wants Mr. Obama to use the diplomatic muscle of the United States to protect Israel from the vote, not only by vetoing it in the Security Council, but also by leaning hard on America’s European allies to get them to reject it as well.

Comments:
Obama has just started the final conflict..Hamas and The Arab Brotherhood were just given the green light to go after Israel and America will do nothing....This presixdent has to figure somewhere in Biblical Prophecy !

I believe they got that from the president. He seemed clear in his speech that he was opposed to the Palestinian plan (threat?) to unilaterally declare independence and petition the UN for recognition. He seemed to cut that avenue off for the Palestinians. He is forcing them back to the table.

Do you think Obama will veto it if it comes to the SC?

Yes. The United States would veto it and take the heat. If there is to be two states, it will be done in an orderly fashion ...... well, as orderly as can be expected in the tribal Middle East.

He seemed to cut that avenue off for the Palestinians. He is forcing them back to the table. That doesn't follow .Why would he insist that Israel give up her hard gained security advantages on the Golan Heights and allow it's enemies a place to rain down death on Israel ? For Israel To accede to Obumbles demands and put themselves at the mercy of the Arabs would be suicide for Israel ....His every action has been pro Arab and anti Western . He feels that the future of the mideast peace accord is dependant on the Palestinian statehood issue but the Arab point of view is it depends on the elimination of Israel and all of the jews as a people !!

He will abondon Israel to the UN and will not veto Palestinian statehood !This presidents advisors are firmly in the Arab camp .He followed Power's advice in Lybia and will do so again on Palestinine .Israel will have to go it alone....

"Consider Obama’s stance toward Israel and the Palestinians. Since taking office, he has maintained the Bush administration’s policy of opposing any reconciliation between Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah government in the West Bank and Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip. Politically, that’s understandable, since lifting the U.S. boycott of Hamas would produce a nasty fight at home. But because Obama has succumbed to the pre-existing conventional wisdom, he must now try to orchestrate a peace process between Israel and a Potemkin Palestinian leadership in the West Bank. Hamas, after all, not Fatah, won the last free and fair Palestinian election, and it might have won again had Abbas not canceled local balloting this summer."

The Idiot-In-Chief wants 1967 borders-Unacceptable
The Idiot-In-Chief said Israel was to defend itself-by themselves. He clearly sides with the muslims and clearly designed this as an insult to our allies. He is a traitor and had no business making these statements on the behalf of the very people he is supposed to represent. This turd must not be re-elected.

How's about cutting off financial and military aid to ALL of the Middle East--Israel and every Muslim nation--and let the chips fall where they may?

Fuck it, cut off foreign aid to EVERY goddamn country. We shouldn't be the world's welfare bureau at this point.

I believe he is speaking of handouts, not trade. Handouts to known enemies has been wasted resources and needs to stop yesterday.
