Guess whose site this came from:

Protecting Children On the Internet
In early 2007 my office did a study that found that over 85% of registered sex offenders in New York City live less than five blocks from schools, and 670 sex offenders live within just two blocks. Some offenders are even closer, permanently residing less than 500 feet away from unwitting parents, educators and children.

Along with several colleagues in Congress, we introduced & passed the KIDS (Keeping the Internet Devoid of Sexual Predators) Act of 2007, a bill to require sex offenders to register their e-mail and instant message addresses with the National Sex Offender Registry. The “Kids Act’ implemented one of my six recommendations to keep a closer eye on sex offenders both near school grounds and online. I also proposed stricter GPS tracking of sex offenders, tougher enforcement of registration laws and more public disclosure of sex offender data.

Sadly, the Internet is the predator's venue of choice today. We need to update our strategies and our laws to stop these offenders who are a mere click away from our children.

Yep, you guessed it, the big Weiner himself:

Is this the kind of person we want drafting legislation about sexual predation on the internet?

Sure, why not?
Just like a burglar knows the best ways and tips to keep your house safe, Weiner, in the "takes on to know one" arena sounds like he may be an expert on Internet sexual predators.

It does show that Weiner is internet savvy enough to figure out how to do it, beats the whole series of tubes argument we've heard. Besides, there's a pretty big difference between sending nudes of yourself out to pornstars and college coeds in CA and little kids.

Not that Weiner is that much of a stand-up guy but comparing what he did with a woman in her mid 20s to being a child predator is a bit of a reach I think.

True. And credibility is lost through hyperbole.

Basically, Weiner was sexting women who weren't his wife. If we had laws punishing everyone who sexted people they weren't married to, the jails would fill up quickly.

What Weiner did was sleezy and terrible to his wife, and the lies he told to cover it up were laughable, but he has not committed a sex crime here, provided everyone was of legal age.

Any time someone dose something wrong there is always something worse they could have done, this hardly excuses any bad behavior.

C'mon you guys! If he was giving a speech before 45,000 people and someone threw a pie... or an insult, would he spend the rest of that speech addressing the pie or insult? Or would he speak about the things he came to speak about, namely Twittering his cock for all to see?

This predator stuff seems to have been the brainchild of aids to Darryl Issa. Unusual man, Issa. Hands in a lot of pies including the CA recall election in 2003.

Issa Aide Linked To Weiner Twitter Tormentors
Duo sought guidance from GOP congressman’s flack

http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/internet/issa-aide-linked-weinergate-096417

UNE 6--The online duo who spearheaded a vicious months-long Twitter assault on Representative Anthony Weiner--whom they accused of improper contact with underage girls--apparently consulted with an aide to a powerful House Republican as they mulled over how to release information about Weiner’s purported relationship with a Delaware teenager, The Smoking Gun has learned.

In a series of e-mails exchanged on May 25, Mike Stack and his Twitter sidekick “Dan Wolfe” discussed a Tumblr posting by the high school student that they believed showed she was having “private conversations” with Weiner. Wolfe, who noted that he had made screen captures of the girl’s Tumblr blog, exclaimed, “This is MAJOR!”

Beginning earlier this year, Stack (a porn site moderator) and Wolfe (whose true identity is unknown) have carefully monitored Weiner’s Twitter page to catalogue the young women being followed by the New York Democrat. In several instances, they have sent tweets directly to these women “warning” them about the politician.

The insinuation in these messages--as well as in postings on their individual Twitter pages--was that Weiner was a predator....

...This aggressive approach was standard for Wolfe and Stack, who had spent months excoriating Weiner over his looks, his supposed sham marriage to a Hillary Clinton aide, and even his wife, whom they accused of having ties to al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood. An online crony of the duo even launched a fake Twitter account--“@repneedledick”--that also viciously singed the liberal Democrat....

How was he to know what her actual age was ?For that matter how would he know if she were male or female .The FBI is quite adroit at grabbing these critters by posing as young men/woman or young kids and Photos exchanged prove nothing .

.. I would imaging if they zeroed in on a member of Congress they would back off quickly unless Obamas Justice Department could use it against the competition to shut them down ...

If you are trying to determine what kind of a perv someone is though, it has to be based on who they believe they are communicating with, not who it actually is.

And thank goodness for that! I would like to think I am having steamy pc conversations with Ivana, the sexy blonde Russian stewardess from Minsk, and not Wilma the 400lbs hairy gap-toothed bald missing a foot due to diabetes woman from Idaho.

The last is true, however, college co-eds start at 17 years old. Did he check IDs before he sent out his images? And mistakenly sending out pics of your intimate area to everyone on your list instead of one person demonstrates a lack of internet savvy (one of the first things people learn is the difference between "Reply" and "Reply All"), and, of course, there is the recklessness factor. As I said in another post, he was sending out blackmail material to, at best, casual acquaintances. How much would he have been willing to pay to avoid that humiliating press conference? A government job? A bit of confidential or classified data from one of his committees? A switched vote? This was the real danger that he was running. And, when he was caught, his first lie had the potential to create a national security crisis. Imagine the FBI and NSA having to do a check, not only of all of his online data, but of every member of congress, their staffs and their support personnel who were on Twitter. If one account is hacked, then every account is vulnerable. That's why he backpedaled so fast on that claim.

If you are trying to determine what kind of a perv someone is though, it has to be based on who they believe they are communicating with, not who it actually is.
This is true, but again, he had no way of knowing who it was going to. The is not that he was pervy so much as reckless to the point of abject stupidity and zero judgement.

Or worse, Wilma's husband, Joe, the 700lbs, hairy from the chin down but not on top, guy that she keeps chained up in the gimp mask and only lets on the computer when Wilma doesn't feel like chatting you up. :D

The FBI, in the past, has grabbed people for just logging into a web site trap set up to entice pedophiles .No communications, past notice or intent was needed.

Yea, and as psy pointed out, these are people presumably seeking out child porn. What Weiner did was skeevy and immoral, but he wasnt going after underage children, to our knowledge.

If an FBI agent posed as an 18 year old to catch pedophiles, they couldnt charge them with shit.

* Am the only one whose noticed Meg's strange obsession with pedophilia?
