Ana Maria Cardona, the Miami woman convicted of torturing and beating her toddler son to death in 1990, will be executed for her crimes, a Miami-Dade judge ruled Friday.

Cardona lamented her son's death, but continued to lay blame for it on her former girlfriend, Olivia Gonzalez, who pleaded guilty in the case and has since been released from prison.

Circuit Judge Reemberto Diaz delivered the sentence after recounting in agonizing detail the fractured bones, sunken belly and infected bruises that Lazaro "Baby Lollipops" Figueroa suffered during his short and tormented life.

Last July, a jury convicted Cardona, 50, of first-degree murder and aggravated abuse. In November 1990, the boy's emaciated and bloodied body draped in a shirt adorned with drawings of lollipops was discovered in the bushes of a bay-front Miami Beach house.

In October, jurors recommended the death penalty, the second time Cardona faced that verdict.

In 1992, jurors convicted Cardona and she was sentenced to die, becoming the first woman in Florida to be sent to Death Row for murdering her own child.

The Florida Supreme Court later overturned the conviction and ordered a new trial.

After the sentencing Friday, Cardona showed no emotion. During the proceeding, she read a statement to the judge insisting she had found God in prison and wanted to live so she could be a mother for her remaining children.

Good Riddance you piece of filth. Lethal injection is far better than the suffering of that poor child. Too bad we no longer use the electric chair.

So you don't believe she found God in prison as she claims?

So you don't believe she found God in prison as she claims?

If she had, wouldn't repentance include recognizing that her life is forfeit for the one she took? A person that has found God, repented of their sins, and been forgiven, has no reason to fear death.

So you don't believe she found God in prison as she claims?

And this absolves her of murder because.....
