Maybe it's just a nostalgic recollection of the past, but it seems like the time period from the 30s to the late 60s was sort of like the height of the American spirit...Like despite Depression, War and Cold War, Americans felt undefeatable, that Americans could do anything, there was a definite American spirit and style, there was an obsession with the future--With the people back then believing we'd have flying cars and all that kind of stuff by now due to American ingenuity. Everything was big and bold and American--the buildings, that Googie architecture style, the beautiful American cars of the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, the music, very much American--Doo Wop, early Rock, Big Band, the Crooners.

Where did that all go? Why did it vanish so fast? And how can we get such a euphoric spirit back in America? Even Reagan nor Clinton--both charismatic, well liked leaders--couldn't recapture the same height of American optimism and "can do" attitude, despite both presiding over huge economic and social booms.
