Anybody have any experience, thoughts? We'll be getting a larger screen for the living room, so I'd like some advice.

LED is better quality, but you certainly pay for it.
I have an LED monitor for my computer, and the picture is just beautiful.

depends on how big you want it. LCD is best to about 48" (though getting better) after that you'll want plasma. not sure about LED

Just stick with the best brands like Sony, Toshiba, Samsung. I am partial to Sony cause of good picture quality and never having one repaired. My brother bought a 46" at Best Buy for around $800 and it has a great picture on cable.

LCD = Liquid Crystal Display
LED = Light Emitting Diode
LED is a newer technology than LCD, and provides better color and picture clarity, especially with those that use Red/Blue/Yellow instead of Red/Blue/Green. For High Definition, especially Blue Ray, LED is the way to go. If you are only viewing DVDs on a regular player, and don't have HD channels, you won't see the difference. Cost of LED vs LCD is generally on the order of 5:4, but the difference gets bigger as the size does. The larger the TV, the more you spend for the new technology.
