TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- A man ran over a group of people with his truck and then stabbed 18, killing at least 7, in a video game district of downtown Tokyo Sunday afternoon, according to a Tokyo fire official.

The dead included five men -- three aged 19, 47 and 74 -- and a woman, according to a Tokyo metropolitan police officer. The gender of the seventh person was not immediately known. Eleven others were wounded, police said, with two critically injured.

"The suspect told police that he came to Akihabara to kill people," Jiro Akaogi, a spokesman for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, told The Associated Press.

"He said he was tired of life. He said he was sick of everything," Akaogi added.

Yep, sickening. I don't know where that is or when it was but it is ugly. On a bike you have zero protection and your speed is pretty low compared to a motorized vehicle so you may not be fast enough to get out of the way.

But the closest call I ever had on a bike was when i almost hit two deer that came out of the woods and leaped across in front of me. I was so close I could smell them. Just a blur and they were gone. I was only going about 20 mph but that would have been ugly.

Nothing compares to getting hit by a vehicle though. Scary.

So......Japan is considering outlawing certain types of knives. Guns are already virtually outlawed in that country.

"Kyodo News reported that Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said the government will consider strengthening laws on knives like the one used Sunday.

The knife used in the attack was a five-inch survival knife easily available in stores, Kyodo reported. Machimura did not say how the government might restrict sales in the future."
