Murphy, a 66-year-old driver from St. Louis, likes having the option and isn't happy about a proposal by the National Transportation Safety Board to ban cellphone calls and text messaging by commercial truck and bus drivers.

This law includes hands free devices and is bullshit.

Most companies have internal rules that forbid the use of cellphones while driving, but there is no way to enforce it. I imagine the NTSB will eventually get their way.

All truckers know to get off the phone when you go through a scale. They look you over pretty thoroughly sometimes; one of our guys went through not wearing a seatbelt, so they red lighted him and when he walked in they wrote him a ticket. Kind of funny; when he started to say something the officer just pointed at the exit door.
