Re: Obama, the World's President [Mark Steyn]

Kathryn, having decided to elect him President and Community Organizer-in-Chief,

the World will not be happy if those hopelessly parochial Yank knuckledraggers decline to endorse the World's decision as to who should govern them and their ghastly backwater.

Already, there are awful mutterings from The Guardian:

You mean economic sanctions? Expulsion from the Olympics? Moving the Oscars to Belgium? Jonathan Freedland isn't spelling it out but he's not happy:

But what of the rest of the world? This is the reaction I fear most. For Obama has stirred an excitement around the globe unmatched by any American politician in living memory.

Polling in Germany, France, Britain and Russia shows that Obama would win by whopping majorities, with the pattern repeated in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. If November 4 were a global ballot, Obama would win it handsomely...

If Americans choose McCain, they will be turning their back on the rest of the world, choosing to show us four more years of the Bush-Cheney finger.

And I predict a deeply unpleasant shift... Suddenly Europeans and others will conclude that their dispute is with not only one ruling clique, but Americans themselves. For it will have been the American people, not the politicians, who will have passed up a once-in-a-generation chance for a fresh start - a fresh start the world is yearning for...

For America to make a decision as grave as this one - while the planet boils and with the US fighting two wars - on the trivial basis that a hockey mom is likable and seems down to earth, would be to convey a lack of seriousness, a fleeing from reality, that does indeed suggest a nation in, to quote Weisberg, "historical decline".

ERROR! ARROR! Arrogance overload!
Hell hath no fury like a leftist not taken seriously. I can smell the brie scorching from here
.........................
Tell ya what, Jonathan, after 0bama loses here, we’ll send him to England and YOU can vote for him. For Prime Minister, King, Queen, Imam, or whatever you like. Deal?
.....................
"If the free world could choose its leader, it would be Barack Obama."
Then, by all means, Obama is welcome to run in the rest of the free world. And they are welcome to him. Once they settle that pesky citizenship question, of course...

The Guardian's Jonathan Freedland appears to be even more of a sap than little Richie Cohen of the Post.

...............................
Wow! I should vote Obama to make some jerks from England happy?
..............................
The leftist British press is in a lather over Obama. They yearn for a Marxist like Obama in charge of the USA. Hey Brits: screw you! We don't want a socialist/Marxist/Communist twit in charge of our country. We're not voting for one and neither are you.
.........................
I love this...even the international media is starting to blow up!

That balance will be changing, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing. We are more of a debtor nation than we should be, and the Fannie/Freddie takeover is sending a signal to the world that we're not in a position to be the boss of everyone.

Oh, neither do I. Two years ago, my husband and I were having dinner at the cafe at the opera house in Stockholm, and were conversing with the Swedish man next to us. He was cordial enough, but at one point asked a little icily, "When are you going to do something about your president?" I said there was an election coming up in 2008. If he wanted me to take more direct action in some way, I couldn't help him with that.

You're way too stupid to be reasoned with, but I'll bite. I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy America more than Europe, but everyone isn't like you. Hold on -- I know your first inclination is to bomb those people until they are more like you -- but calm down. You're drinking earlier and earlier in the day, it seems. Do not presume to lecture me on proper behavior abroad. The word you want is "besmirches" and you don't even know that much. I made the remark about the election in 2008 to deflect further comments, and it did so. International etiquette does not demand picking bar fights in order to defend one's country's honor (and why you think it is synonymous with the president's, I do not know). I will turn the comment back on you, and ask you to imagine that you would rise gallantly to the defense of President Clinton in the same situation.

Yeah, right. Fuckwit.

And If you keep it up they will put you out on the street !You have a way with foul language as well !

If any foreigner had anything to say about my country or president, even old BJ , while in a foreign country, he would hear me defend it in a bar or not.

A simple matter of perception madam. As for my disapproval you have simple proven once again my instincts for smelling out a fraud and a liberal.
You have much to say of others in a sly and devious way but then again that's just the liberal in you !
As an American, you were born in America I presume, one should be proud of their country and support it without fear.
If a foreigner, non American, makes any remarks against this great country one should always rise to the defence ,unless the current president isn't a liberal ,as in your case ,and support America and its president.
