EVEN IF, this kind of video (done by Leno, this guy, or that wad on You Tube whose name I can't remember, the one who did something like this in Berkeley) EVEN IF they are only showing us the idiots, that there are people in college who can't answer the question, "How many Jewish countries are there in the world." is enough to make me think that the people who run these colleges need to be held accountable some way.

Then again, we shouldn't have any trouble finding schtudints who say that they sincerely believe that the planet is less than 6000 years old and was created by finger-snap.

Still, there's a distinction, one is a matter of stunning ignorance and the other is a matter of choice of beliefs between religious doctrine and scientific thought after exposure to both. Perhaps a peculiar choice in the face of fossils, carbon dating, extinct hominids, linguistic analysis, genomic science, etc., but a choice nonetheless.

Academics are never held accountable for any of the failures that they produce. A quiz on the Constitution or American history would have drawn equally clueless responses, but any attempt to track this kind of ignorance back to the educators is invariably characterized as an attack on academic freedom, rather than a critical quality control measure.

Wei claims to be a teacher. I wonder how many of his students would have answered these questions correctly.

Then again, we shouldn't have any trouble finding schtudints who say that they sincerely believe that the planet is less than 6000 years old and was created by finger-snap.

OTOH, you'd have no trouble finding "students" who favor Communism, Socialism, Marxism or any other number of pathological ideologies. Given a choice between a student who believes in the Easter Bunny and a student who believes that enemies of the revolution deserve to be put to forced labor and killed, I'll take the kid with the Easter egg.

It also won't be hard to find many students that believe RNA, DNA and reproduction managed to invent themselves right after that non-miraculous event that caused dead things to come to life! :D

Sadly, it is a fact that our public schools and colleges are turning out graduates that have less real knowledge than 5th graders in Jefferson's time. Why, back in Jefferson's day, he gave Bibles to grade schools because those kids were expected to understand both the language and the theology. Today our college graduates can't manage that, some use an edition printed at the 8th grade reading level, and others know absolutely nothing about our most important cultural background.
