DEVELOPING -- Dutch-born Seattle Mariners' outfielder Greg Halman was stabbed to death in Rotterdam on Monday, Reuters reports.

Halman's family confirmed the news of his death, NOS TV reports.

Halman's brother Jason has been arrested in connection with the incident.

"A 24-year-old died this morning in a stabbing and we have arrested the 22-year-old brother of the victim," a Rotterdam police spokesman said, according to Reuters.

Halman, 24, was signed as a free agent by Seattle in 2004. Last season, Halman was called up as a backup outfielder for the Seattle Mariners and batted .230 with two home runs and six RBI, NBC San Diego reports.

Halman was born in Haarlem, Netherlands. He helped Netherlands win the 2007 European Baseball Championship, Reuters reports. Halman's father and brother both played on the Dutch national baseball team and his sister, Naomi Halman, is a professional basketball player in Europe, NBC San Diego reports.

Halman also reportedly held coaching clinics for kids in Europe when not playing for the Mariners.

How sad-it seems he was a really good guy. He certainly was a nice looking young man.

Too bad. This is a shame. I'll hold back on some of my less than generous thoughts for the moment.:(
