View Full Version : Does Obama Know The Difference Between England and Great Britian?

Following the contemptible storming of the British Embassy in Iran by violent protestors, President Obama rightly condemned the Iranian government for not controlling the protestors and protecting a diplomatic outpost. In doing so, however, he made yet another embarrassing foreign policy gaffe: referring to the embassy as "English" instead of "British."

How do you think the media would have treated a Republican presidential candidate if he or she made the same mistake?

According to the Heritage Foundation:

In case the president is unaware, England forms part of Great Britain, which also includes Scotland and Wales, though not Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom. There is no such thing as an “English” embassy anywhere in the world, and there hasn’t been one for several centuries.

Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised by this latest slip-up by President Obama. After all he recently described France as America’s closest ally, and famously declared that he has traveled to no less than 57 states. But it would be nice if the leader of the free world bothered to look at a map once in a while, or even paid a visit to the British Embassy in Washington, currently housing the Churchill bust that Mr. Obama unceremoniously threw out of the Oval Office soon after his inauguration.

The "English" gaffe not only calls into question Obama's foreign policy expertise, but also his opinions on the relationship between the US and Britain. Rather than fostering continued relationships with countries throughout Europe and strongly supporting Israel, many of Obama's policies have denigrated those relationships while appeasing enemies and adversaries. Calling France America's closest ally was a blow to the "special relationship" shared by the US and Britain since the Great Rapprochement in the two decades leading up to World War I.

Of course, the White House and the media will inevitably dismiss the remark as a minor blunder, but it will not be the first time Obama has treated the key ally of Britain without the respect it deserves.

The "English" gaffe? How about DVDs (http://articles.nydailynews.com/2009-03-06/news/17918273_1_mr-obama-prime-minister-brown-michelle-obama) that won't play in Britain, or toy helicoptors (http://www.unitedliberty.org/articles/i-sure-hope-the-prime-minister-likes-movies). The results of Obama's attitude toward the British was demonstrated when Obama was snubbed (http://www.examiner.com/pop-culture-in-hartford/kayne-west-invited-to-the-royal-wedding-and-obama-s-snubbed) and not invited to William and Kate's wedding.

No! "English" was not a gaffe.

According to the Daily Mail, Obama hates Whites, and the "English" in particular. It goes back to his Kenyan grandfather. (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1287828/Revealed-Why-President-Obama-loathes-British.html) A must read..........

He probably returned the Winston Churchill bust because he thought it was W.C. Fields.

Christmas is only a month away, so the beast will get it's meat. There will be much outrage over any entity that chooses to wish people Happy Holidays over Merry Christmas. More outrage even than was expressed on FOX or by Bob Dutko over the President's failure to reference God in his Thanksgiving address on YouTube!

This issue here is the hypocrisy of the media. It this had been a Republican president, you know, you know that this gaffe would be hammered relentlessly.

But you know this.

Does he know the difference? My first instinct tells me to write ... Of course he does!

It was just another intended slap in the face to them.

But then again, his correction was also wrong. Who knows?

Not at all. When criticizing the mistakes of others, it's best not to be making them yourself, at the same time.

Yes, you are absolutely correct ... but it is no excuse for you to be so impolite to your fellow posters.

Amazing how you didn't have this opinion fanboy...when it was President Bush who was being mocked on a daily basis.

Or when Sarah Palin was being mocked...even when she was correct.

In your case it's the selective outrage beast that must get fed.

Take a closer look lib; the Beast is a disgust beast. It feeds off of the probability that the Ignoramus In Chief, your god whom you kiss the butt of, will be a footnote of history soon.

Which one is the forgotten 58th state? If I remember his statement correctly, he said; "we've been to 57 States so far and now it's on to another" or something close to this. I'll see if I can find it.

If I'm correct, the "most intelligent president we've ever had" believes we have 58 states. Even a KORPS MAN knows better.:rolleyes:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpGH02DtIwsOk found it. It's even worse. He claims to have been in 57 with one more to go. That brings Mr Too Intelligent For Mere Mortals To Understand count to 58 States. But wait! Mr Intelligent isn't finished. He claims he wasn't allowed to go to Hawaii or Alaska and that brings my bitter clinger count to 60 States.

Yep, with this kind of intelligence, it's no wonder the DIMS have led us to the brink of bankruptcy.

This raises an interesting question. What territories/nations does Obama believe are states? Assuming that he is aware of the actual fifty, and doesn't think that Texas is still an independent nation or that the commonwealths of Virginia and Massachussetts are not states, but commonwealths, or some other idiocy, then what are the additional eight regions that he has presumed statehood for? This is important, because he may have already had the census count these regions and sent ACORN in on voter registration drives. Some obvious choices are Puerto Rico, Washington DC, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands, but just because something is obvious doesn't mean that a leftist will grasp it, so it's entirely possible that Obama is counting eight completely unrelated or nonexistent regions as US states. Here's my first pass at a list:

East Carolina
Freedonia
Margaritaville
Anyplace where they speak "Austrian"
Ohiowa
Grand Fenwick
Strawberry Fields
W. C. Fields.

Anyone else have any nominees?

About the Austrian comment-do you know anyone from Austria? My grandpa is from there. Those damned germans speak Austrian, didn't you know that? Grandpa never refers to his native language as German. The Austrians are superior to every other race in the world!

Of course, I point out to him that Austria gave us two of the most destructive people of the 20th century-Hitler and Freud.

I will nominate the Upper Penninsula of Michigan as one of the 57 states. They want statehood, but don't have enough of an economy to be separated from us trolls.

The rest of Michigan is nearing the economic output of the U.P. Give it a few more socialist reforms and they'll have successfully shared the poverty.

I shared a suite in college with a number of other guys, one of whom was Austrian. As near as I can tell, they are just like Germans, except with less of a sense of humor.

Nah, that's a rational argument. You've got to think more gonzo than that. We're talking about places that would seem like states to a guy who was educated by the best schools that were willing to lower their academic standards in the name of affirmative action, and who spent most of his time at those schools in the pursuit of the kind of academic excellence that can only come from repeated hits from the communal bong.

Ford, GM and even Chrysler are hiring workers right now.

This is mixed news to me, though. I'm glad the companies are in a position to hire new people, but Michigan has to stop relying so much on the auto industry as our economic base.
