(CNN) -- Protesters chanting, "Whose port? Our port!" marched on ports in Oakland and Long Beach in California on Monday, part of a planned effort to shut down shipping facilities along the West Coast.

The protesters, affiliated with the nationwide "Occupy" movement, set out in the pre-dawn hours in Oakland, Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, to shut down ports in an effort to "disrupt the economic machine that benefits the wealthiest individuals and corporations," according to organizers.

Similar efforts were planned for San Diego as well as Seattle, Washington, Vancouver, British Columbia and Anchorage, Alaska, according to the Occupy the Ports website.

At the Long Beach port, police lined up to prevent protesters from continuing their march, warning them to move out of the road to a designated protest zone or face arrest. At least one protester was taken into custody during a confrontation as police tried to push protesters back.

"Who's retarded? We're retarded!!!!!" :rolleyes::D

The protest in Long Beach lasted two hours. The one in San Diego not quite that long.

The one in Portland was laughable. The protesters were joined by union workers - Until the union workers found out they would not be paid. They went to court for an emergency order for payment. The judge said that the actions of the protesters in shutting down the port was not related to union goals. No pay for the day. The union then opposed the protesters and it was all over.

Another epic fail.
