Republicans have blocked adjournment once again! NO official recess means NO recess appointments!

GOP has blocked adjournment AGAIN!, which means there will be no official 'recess',
instead the Senate will have scheduled pro-forma sessions during the Christmas break : http://democrats.senate.gov/2011/12/17/senate-floor-schedule-for-pro-formas-and-monday-january-23-2012/

Which means President Obama will NOT be able to make any recess appointments!!! Grrr

This is the same obstruction strategy bullshit that the Republicans have been using all year!

2. Why don't Democrats use these strategies?

I am always reading about how Republicans can always manage to find some way to get what they want, even when in the minority. But when the shoe is on the other foot, there is never any talk of doing stuff like this, all we hear is 'democrats were forced to compromise'.

Makes you wonder how much they want to win sometimes. These tools are not just available to Republicans and if this is how the game is played, and they learn that Dems will do the same thing, they will realize it's not beneficial in the long run.

But knowing Dems would never do anything like filibuster, or refuse to adjourn, gives them nothing to lose by constantly resorting to these tricks.

He should use his executive powers at this point. Start playing tough with these tantrum throwing babies. The whole is just so broken, there really seems to be no hope at all of the people's business ever being attended to. Unless they start doing it themselves.

5. Because democrats realize there is a Constitution.

And understand their job is to produce a vote on and defeat rightwing potential appointees.

Why don't you work to elect an many democrat as possible instead of hope that democrats behave like extra-Constitutional bastards?

29. +1. Democrats feel obligated to govern. Republicans want to rule.

View profile
That's the difference. Democrats see government as a responsibility, to represent the best interests and the opinions of everyone. Republicans see government as a game to be cheated at, and to exploit the rules in order for them to "win" at any cost.

And you know what? Even as much as it makes our jobs harder, I'm glad for it, because it's what makes us better than them.

9. They did exactly this in '07

which must be where the repukes got the idea, because they're not smart enough to come up with it on their own.'

20. WE DID!

View profile
We kept the Congressional session open to prevent GWB from making appointments.

How quickly we forget.
Then don't complain when it is used against you. You were told then that actions have consequences. This is one of them.

7. You know the quote is Jim Webb from '07, right?

The repukes are doing exactly what the Dems did over winter break in 07.
