A 1%'er went off on my daughter today: "I am a medical field executive and I drive a Lexus.."

She is an asst manager at our local movie theater and often takes calls from customers who wish to voice their complaints/concerns.
She took a call from a guy who wanted to tell her how upset he was about people's cell phones being used during movies..ok, fine, valid concern (though, he was not in the theater at the time, he called up to complain).

She listened to him and said, you know, please come out and tell us if you are in a theater and someone does that, we will tell them to stop or leave". He kept going on and on, telling her how bothersome it is to "leave the movie, miss parts of it, find someone to tell.."
She again said that they will try to quickly resolve any problems he has if he is at the theater and has problems.

He then went all 1 percent on her: "I am an executive in the medical field, I drive a Lexus, I shouldn't be having to put up with this...you all should have cell phone jammers in the theater so people can't use their cell phones, I want to talk to a manager!"

My daughter: "sir, I am a manager"

Guy: "Don't get arrogant with me...."

She wanted to reach thru the phone and slap him. Not because he didn't have a valid concern about cell phone disturbances but because of his whole "I drive a Lexus and shouldn't have to..." bullshit.

...

Now as always, it might be a true story. But it's probably a :bounce:
The Holidays bring em out!!!

We have become a very intolerant people, we Americans. The very history of Ireland, Scotland, England would be to bland to bear were it not for the Celtic tradition of making the story a little more interesting than it actually was.

And yet, I can sense when someone is adding color to the commentary. My lie detector goes off when the teller retells his bold speech, making it bolder than it had actually been.

But these are our friends and family, and we endure the retelling of a worn out tale with our typical charm and grace, because even though we can't recall ever doing so, we can allow that we might retell a story better than the first time ourselves.

Doubt if any part of it is true.

Doubt if any part of it is true.

I'd say that in all likelihood the daughter is a manager at a movie theater, the guy did call to complain about the behavior in the theater (Have you been to a movie theater lately?) , and he probably did puff himself up a little. The rest of it is enhanced to make some point, I suppose, but I guess I missed why it matters if this guy is a 1% or not.

My experience with actual 1%ers is that they use their privilege to avoid public group situations, and when they find themselves inconvenienced by the unwashed they extricate themselves and chalk it up to experience. Oh wait, that's what I do, Im not 1%.

So only 1%ers drive Lexus'? Huh.

Oh, and do these people know that 1%ers are a motor cycle gang?

Yeah...sure we are. :roll eyes:

Don't project the intolerance of your Liberal brethren on normal Americans.

Just because Liberals don't tolerate anything that ventures outside the mob/hive groupthink doesn't mean the rest of us are that way.

Chevy thanks the 1%er

A think tank crunches the subsidy and bailout dollars and puts the true cost of Government Motors' electric car at a cool quarter-million. And the few sold have been largely bought by the 1%. At a time when Democrats are blaming the GOP for blocking a payroll tax cut deal that will add $40 in the average paycheck, they have no problem taking that worker's tax dollars to make and subsidize what we once called an electric Edsel bought by a precious few with an average income of $170,000.

"Each Chevy Volt sold thus far may have as much as $250,000 in state and federal dollars in incentives behind it — a total of $3 billion altogether, according to an analysis by James Hohman, assistant director of fiscal policy at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Actually that amount could be higher if you prorated the cost of the government bailout and takeover of General Motors...

The American taxpayer is once again being taken for quite a ride.

So only 1%ers drive Lexus'? Huh.If you're actually a 1%er, you don't drive at all. You have people who do that.

The fastest growing area of home improvement is the home theater. The wealthy have been putting theaters in their homes for so long, that upper middle income level homes are built with a home theater. No need to go through the hassle of the movie experience.

I have known a LOT of very wealthy people. The one thing common among them is with real wealth, the quieter they become about it. The trumpeters are the historically un-wealthy who recently made some money. The REAL trumpeters are more likely to say "Do you know who I am. I have 5,000 facebook friends" than someone saying "I drive a Lexus."
