WASHINGTON -- A magnitude 2.5 earthquake struck central Virginia early Wednesday morning, originating from the same area as the 5.8 tremor that shook the region last summer.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake just after 8 a.m. originated from Mineral, Va., home to the North Anna Nuclear Generating Station, in the area between Charlottesville, Fredericksburg and Richmond. See an interactive map of the epicenter here (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Maps/US2/37.39.-79.-77.php).

Aftershocks followed at 8:08 a.m. and 9:20 a.m. There has been no reported damage

2.5? I probably wouldn't have felt that if it was here in California, let alone back east.

seriously, they don't seem to grasp the concept that earthquakes happen a lot. There should be an average of like 80 major earthquakes a year across the globe (7.0 or higher) yet we don't. We have at most 2-5. though we do have a lot of 1.0-3.0 quakes.
