Wow, I am into my third day of owning this fire and all I can say is thank God I don't own an iPad. I don't need a built in gps or all the other stuff that comes with one and I sure don't want to purchase another data plan.
Does anyone else have a fire and if so,how long did it take you tofind all the features

You can't beat the price or the android operating system, good choice.

Got one for Christmas and love it.

Stock market, weather, audio books, e-books with dictionary service, Newspapers, Pandora while I'm reading..................Yeah. It's good.:)

Found a few little bitty problems but nothing that really put me off.

Is the color one as easy on your eyes as the original when reading books?

My wife has an original kindle. I can say I prefer reading on the brighter screen of my fire than on her black and white screen.

I was curious because I bought one a year ago for my wife and she loves it, I mentioned the Fire to her but she never uses the internet and was worried it might have more eye strain with the new screen.

My Daughter is pestering me for a kindle fire for her birthday, so is it worth the 200 price tag?

If she is an avid book reader, then yes. If she wants to surf the internet, then yes. If she wants a mobile platform for reading and sending emails, listening to downloaded music and wants to stick it to Apple, then yes, get her a fire.

If however, you want to pay double for the base model iPad and pay for a data plan so she can basically do the same thing on a slightly larger surface AND have your daughter get multiple piercing throughout her face just so she can look like every other apple user, then no.

I love my daughter with all my heart so I wont subject her to apple products. I don't want her to be a mindless apple phangirl.

I can't buy a Fire yet, I'm looking forward to being able to try it out. I do like the e-ink effect of the old school kindle though so I'd probably stick to that for books.

Im liking what Im reading (reviews) on the Kindle Fire v iPad v iPod touch. But Im prob gonna wait till the kindle is a little more popular and has more features before I get one. The 3G option sure is nice but maybe the wifi would be enough. The ipad and ipod are a combination too much and not enough for me .. I think.

mine is wifi only, and is more than enough...3G doesn't let you do much

The fire is a heck of a bargain, well worth it. It's still nice though having the sheer size of an iPad.

There are several android pads available that are the same size as the apple pad.

True, but if I'm going to spend Apple equivalent money, I'd rather have an iPad.

I have a standard Kindle, I love being able to read outside with the sunshine. It's has wi-fi but no 3G...I bought a pair for my bro in law & sister in 2010 for Christmas, and then a pair for my mom and I last year.

The Fire does look cool.....

Ironically, looks like the next Apple pad will be smaller, something like going from 9.5" to 8."

I'll never go Apple. Too much control in one autocratic vendor, I went down the Amiga road in the early 1990s, actually superior technically to contemporary Macs using the same processor (Unfortunately the company fell into the hands of business guys with zero technical vision), and watched PCs kick both their asses. I suppose I could've stayed with it and gone Linux or gone to the ported OS, but once Win95 came along there just wasn't any point. Never getting locked into proprietary systems again, TYVM.

I hate everything apple but I wish I'd have bought their stock when it was at its lowest :( its what 500 dollars a share now? The all time low was under 15 dollars?
