A recently published “lexicon” distributed to thousands of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) targets citizens concerned about their Second Amendment rights and the steady encroachment of the federal government, categorizing such as “militia extremists.”

The “lexicon,” marked Unclassified/For Official Use Only (FOUO), is dated November 10, 2011, and was sent out by email to law enforcement and homeland security agencies on November 14 by LaJuan E. Washington of the DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis.

(U//FOUO) Groups or individuals who facilitate or engage in acts of violence directed at federal, state, or local government officials or infrastructure in response to their belief that the government deliberately is stripping Americans of their freedoms and is attempting to establish a totalitarian regime. These individuals consequently oppose many federal and state authorities’ laws and regulations, (particularly those related to firearms ownership), and often belong to armed paramilitary groups. They often conduct paramilitary training designed to violently resist perceived government oppression or to violently overthrow the US Government. (Page 2 of 3, emphasis added)

I sent out the e-mail. I keep telling you to adjust your spam filters. :D

Actually, they have a valid point with this one. Note the first sentence:

Groups or individuals who facilitate or engage in acts of violence directed at federal, state, or local government officials or infrastructure

This isn't just about holding an opinion, it's about engaging in violent activities. Now, if they suddenly decide that even holding the opinion that the federal government is out of control constitutes a terrorist attitude, that's a different issue. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion. When they resort to violence to express it, the government has an obligation to act.

Everyone around here gets paranoid about the Michigan Militia, who are really pretty harmless. They just like to fire their guns at targets on private property. Sometimes, they like to use a lot of firepower when they do it. But they are not against the cops or the government, just ready for an emergency. Seriously ready.

Most of the similar organizations still in existence are like that, though they aren't numerous enough or standardized enough to really be of any actual use to the regular authorities in case of crisis, no matter what their mission statements may say. By and large they are just militarized preppers/survivalists.

Eureka! A way to kill two birds with one stone.

What would it take to get Second Amendment groups to sit outside select Walmarts asking for money for constitutional and firearm training for "youth (yoots)"?

They stick to the Petoskey area, mostly. They disassociated themselves with some of their troublemaker affiliates, like James Nichols and "Mark from Michigan". It's a good thing that they did so with the Rainbow Farm guys before that bunch had their final showdown with the MSP a week before 9-11 happened.
