General Motors Co. (http://topics.mlive.com/tag/General%20Motors/index.html)will suspend production of the Chevrolet Volt at its Detroit-Hamtramck plant for five weeks, temporarily laying off 1,300 employees.

According to the Detroit (http://www.mlive.com/detroit)-based automaker, the idling from March 19 through April 23 is to match production with demand.

Not surprising as all reports are the Volt sales are tanking. At this pace the volt will be scrapped.

But to keep in step, how does the left react?

Well Bush isn't around any longer, and Beck went to the web and is off Fox. So its Rush is Satan for the next 8 months.

Becks pay to view was a bad decision, he should have made it free and have commercials.
He doesn't even have much of the choir anymore. The radio program is still doing fine though.

Agreed. I understood why he wanted to do it, but his planning wasn't there. Beck was popular on Fox because he was controversial. I found him more annoying. His biggest claim was the Van Jones deal. But in all honesty, I think he stole it from Zombie who had all that posted on his site weeks before Beck broke it.

I've listened to his radio show some, its ok, but nothing I feel I want to listen to regularly.

He is hard to listen to now, no offense to Mormons but I would rather hear politics from Beck rather than preaching. I record his show daily on XM but often end up deleting a good portion.
He is doing what he feels is right but I already have a belief system.

Beck was much more interesting back in 2000-2005...Kandahar and Jalalabad were a hoot

I would actually move it up to 2007, he is still of value but you have to listen a bit more selectively.
I see no point in his pay view, there are no views of his I don't already know he holds.

I didn't listen to him much after I moved to MI, but listened a lot in his early days.

oh, don't worry...GE will save it :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

A number of important GM related news items recently broke that are worth recognizing.

General Electric Commits to Deploying 25,000 Electric Cars
The first was an announcement from General Electric that the company plans to deploy 25,000 electric cars into its global fleet by 2015. It will acheive this goal both by converting half of its global fleet of 30,000 cars to electric and by purchasing electric cars from autmotkers.
Its initial purchase will be 12,000 Chevrolet Volts from GM. Cars from other automakers will be added as they become available.
“Electric vehicle technology is real and ready for deployment and we are embracing the transformation with partners like GM and our fleet customers,” said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt. “By electrifying our own fleet, we will accelerate the adoption curve, drive scale, and move electric vehicles from anticipation to action.
GM CEO Dan Akerson said, “GE’s commitment reflects confidence that electric vehicles are a real-world technology that can reduce both emissions and our dependence on oil. It is also a vote of confidence in the Chevrolet Volt, which we will begin delivering to retail customers by the end of this year. We are pleased that the Volt will play a major role in this program, which will spur innovation and benefit our companies, our customers, and society as a whole.”
Dont worry about GE taking all the Volts away from consumers. “It’s between now and 2015,” says GM spokesperson Rob Peterson. “So the volumes are manageable.”

Five weeks to "keep in step with demand"? Five years would be a better number. But maybe Government Motors is prepping for coverup mode........http://members.socket.net/~mcruzan/avatars/shrug.gif

If this were the case, they should have begun the "idle" the 1st week of production.

But why, didn't Obama just tout what a raving success the Volt is?

Who the hell want's a car that runs on coal? That's essentially what a Volt is.

Don't have to worry about it running off coal too much longer. Been reported that 10 coal power plants are closing soon. All part of the Obama/EPA regulations. At this pace, the only thing powering it will be those magic beans (http://campaign2012.washingtonexaminer.com/blogs/beltway-confidential/white-house-no-magic-beans-cheaper-gas/393756) Obama talked about.

I swear, for five grand I could turn my 20+ year old Ford Ranger into a better EV than a new Volt.
