This is the second thread on the transgendered beauty pageant contestant. It has been argued to death. :p At the end of the day though, it's a private organization. So FWIW I don't have a problem with it.

Exactly. Try doing that surrounded by cabbies from third world countries where the closest thing to a brake pedal is the horn, geriatric pedestrians, bicyclists going the wrong way on one-way streets and lost tourists. That would impress me.

Define the concept.

Funny thing, but their website doesn't have a mission statement of any kind. I would presume that a beauty contest would judge applicants on how closely they epitomize the feminine ideal, as determined by the judges. Today, given the culture, that ideal no longer appears to involve actual biological womanhood. Future contests may not even require surgical womanhood. Of course, any society that considers such things the epitome of femininity has deeper problems than beauty contests.

This reminds me of an old joke. An owner of a champion pit bull opens up a dog fight to all comers. When the time comes, one challenger brings in the oddest looking dog anyone there has seen. It's bright yellow and has a short, stubby tail. The pit bull owner shrugs and puts his dog in the ring. In seconds, the pit bull is shredded and running for its life. The match goes to the yellow dog. Afterwards, the owner of the pit bull goes up to the challenger and says, "That's sure a funny looking dog, but he can fight like nothing I've ever seen. What breed is he?"

The challenger answers, "Well, I don't rightly know from breeds, but before I caught 'im, cut his tail off and painted him yellow, he was an alligator."

Is there anyone here who isn't surprised that there still is a Miss America or Miss Universe pageant? Seriously, the very concept has been under critical attack for at least my entire awareness. But even as far back as that was, Miss America was something we all gathered in front of the TV to watch in 1964, and I hoped that Miss Maryland would win.

Shortly after that I stopped caring who won, and can't recall there having been a family evening watching Miss America. The Olympics took the place I guess, and we hoped the US would win but considered it difficult with the Soviet bloc over represented in judging and their corrupt voting in our eyes.

I don't think that having transexuals in beauty pageants will be what has done them in. At some point, it seemed to present itself that Miss America was frozen in time. These women looked like 1940's pin up girls- their hair and make-up was outdated, their diet-only body style was chubby and round by modern standards. They were like male body builders from the 1950's- all pecs and no abs. Their conforming on stage personalities were out of touch. They still tend to look like a cliché of some bleach blond big haired Texas cheerleader. Where are the girls with fashion forward looks? Even that transexual looks more like Heather Locklear than a real life 2012 woman.
