The White House says President Barack Obama and his family paid more than $160,000 in federal taxes last year.

The president's 2011 federal income tax return shows reported adjusted gross income of about $790,000 last year. About half of the first family's income is the president's salary. The White House says the rest comes from sales of Obama's books.

Obama's effective tax rate is just above 20 percent -- lower than many Americans who earn less. He has made tax-rate fairness a campaign issue.

The White House released a copy of the president's tax return, which also shows charitable donations of more than $172,000.
Obama is donating after-tax proceeds from his children's book to the Fisher House Foundation. The charity helps veterans and military families receiving medical treatment.

For Vice President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, this year's tax return looks almost identical to last year's.
Returns for 2011 released by the White House show the Bidens paid $87,900 in federal taxes on adjusted gross income of $379,035.
Their income was $143 below their 2010 return, but their tax bill was $1,274 higher. In both cases, the effective tax rate was just over 23 percent.

Since he continues to be outraged by the Bush tax rates, I fully expect to see him write a check to the Treasury Department to make up the difference between the obviously unfair amount that he is paying due to Republican greed, and the correct amount that he would have paid under his own preferred rates and policies.

I will not, however, hold my breath.

Get with the program will ya?

But, since Ayers gets up every morning with the intent to destroy capitalism (by his own admission), wouldn't he just give the money back to the federal government so that it can be spent on the kinds of programs that he loves?

President Obama’s Secretary Paid Higher Tax Rate Than He Did

President Obama has been making a big political push for the “Buffett Rule,” which would require millionaires to pay a minimum of 30% of their income in taxes. To illustrate the point, the president has pointed out that billionaire investor Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate than does his secretary.

President Obama’s secretary, Anita Decker Breckenridge, makes $95,000 a year. White House spokeswoman Amy Brundage tells ABC News that Breckenridge “pays a slightly higher rate this year on her substantially lower income, which is exactly why we need to reform our tax code and ask the wealthiest to pay their fair share. ”

I am willing to be a C-note that obama at sometime in the near future will say that he wishes he had been taxed at a higher rate, when the issue of his taxes come up.

Like Ody said all he has to do is: "write a check to the Treasury Department to make up the difference between the obviously unfair amount that he is paying due to Republican greed, and the correct amount that he would have paid under his own preferred rates."

Otherwise he should keep his yap shut.

I see no one has been able to shame "time to be patriotic, time to jump in" everyone-but-my-money-Biden into giving to charity.

$379,178 in income. $5,350 in charitable giving. Of which about a $1,000 was in donated clothes. Thanks Joe. Keep up the good work.

The charities will be in a world of hurt if Obama's tax plan is passed. With all the money diverted from those rich Republicans who donate, the dims will be like Obama and not donate their fair share.

Maybe Obama and Biden and their minions can donate more old clothes to Goodwill.
