CHICAGO (CBS) – Is there a secret plan to evacuate some residents of Chicago in the event of major trouble during the NATO summit next month? CBS 2 has uncovered some evidence that there is. It comes from the Milwaukee area branch of the American Red Cross.

CBS 2 News has obtained a copy of a Red Cross e-mail sent to volunteers in the Milwaukee area.

It said the NATO summit “may create unrest or another national security incident. The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago.”

According to a chapter spokesperson, the evacuation plan is not theirs alone.

“Our direction has come from the City of Chicago and the Secret Service,” she said.

Keep in mind two weeks ago residents were startled by urban warfare drills conducted in downtown Chicago on the authority of the OMEC.

In addition, earlier this week a number of Chicago area residents revealed that they have been asked to leave their homes (http://media.myfoxchicago.com/pdf/condo-association-nato-warning.pdf) in preparation for major rioting.

“The American Red Cross in southeastern Wisconsin has been asked to place a number of shelters on standby in the event of evacuation of Chicago,” dovetails with reports earlier this year that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) put out a request for contractors to construct temporary emergency camps inside the United States which can be ready for occupancy within a 72 hour time period and used to house emergency responders as well as “displaced citizens.”

Twitter, Facebook and cellphones in general make the organizers of the '68 Democratic convention green with envy. I suppose the high level meetings that bureaucrats in general love so well may have to move to locations on islands or the Kansas prairie. The only way to keep the meat heads at bay is to hide from them.

It's not like an awful lot is accomplished at these summits....

St Louis a few years back had an economic summit held there that caused the local folk to fear that the terrorist type anarchists might cause big troubles. It was on the heels of a similar summit in Europe with major disruptions.

Our greyt local police force really ramped up for the event. No one was allowed to congregate, particularly on the sidewalks. They were made, as I remember, to walk in the street (on a designated side) with the cops closely watching. They moaned and groaned and called in the ACLU types, but the event came and went with no major problems.

Still, I wonder how warm and fuzzy old Dead Fish will be if they cause too much trouble in Chicago.
