New Obama slogan has long ties to Marxism, socialism

The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.

Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_%28generic_name_of_socialist_publications% 29) (generic name of socialist publications)."

"The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains.

The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.

The Obama campaign released its new campaign slogan Monday in a 7-minute video. The title card has simply the word "Forward" with the "O" having the familiar Obama logo from 2008. It will be played at rallies this weekend that mark the Obama re-election campaign's official beginning. >>>

Conservative critics of the Obama administration have noted numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama's history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist.

From Wikipedia:

The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other leftwing newspapers and publications. For example, Vpered (Russian language for 'Forward') was the name of the publication that Lenin started after having resigned from the Iskra editorial board in 1905 after a clash with Georgi Plekhanov and the Mensheviks.[1]

Obama is headed anywhere but forward

You have to hand it to President Obama and his cabal of re-election strategists; they are masters of illusion. Their newly released Web video and its accompanying campaign slogan, "Forward," are science fiction-level fantastical.

We're all familiar with Obama's penchant for deflecting responsibility and blaming his policy failures on George W. Bush, but after more than three years in office for Obama, it has gone from childish mischief to juvenile delinquency. This is a question for Guinness: Has any other president run for re-election against the record of his retired predecessor? >>>

But despite the pernicious efforts of the GOP and its loudmouth conservative co-conspirators to thwart President Obama's salutary agenda, Obama has persevered and triumphed. That's right; his record is not one of failure but one of extraordinary achievement against this right-wing hydra and the multifaceted adversity it has hurled at him.

In fact, the White House would have us believe the economy is doing pretty well. "The president's stimulus plan saved up to 4.2 million jobs" and has given us steady economic growth, and the manufacturing sector is going gangbusters.

What this little clip doesn't tell you -- apart from the meaningless and immeasurable metric of "saved jobs," which has now been further diluted to the ludicrous rendering "saved up to" -- is how much these possibly or possibly not saved jobs cost the American taxpayer. It doesn't reveal Obama's miserable record in creating new private-sector jobs or that overall, he has delivered us a net loss of millions of jobs and unemployment at levels consistently 60 percent higher than what economists consider normal.

It doesn't report that taxpayers lost billions on his vaunted auto bailouts or that through his abuses of power, secured creditors were literally cheated out of their money.

The video conveniently fails to mention that Obama has rightfully earned his nickname "The Food Stamp President" with the objectively measurable skyrocketing increases in government dependency payouts during his term, a great portion of which cannot be blamed on the recession, which his policies grossly worsened anyway. It doesn't disclose that Obamacare will cost nearly twice what Obama promised or that Dodd-Frank is likely to exacerbate the very problems it is ostensibly designed to prevent.

The video casually glosses over Obama's real record on green jobs, the wasted billions and the shameless corporatist corruption. It doesn't showcase his gutting of the military or his plans for radical nuclear disarmament.

But the most gaping hole in this propaganda piece is its glaring omission of the debt crisis Obama has engineered, his abdication of leadership in failing to pressure his party's Senate majority to produce a budget -- even a phony, superficial one -- in more than 1,000 days, and his egregious refusal to work on entitlement reform and balancing the budget.

Team Obama is gifted in community organizing, but not even these wizards can re-create reality to make Obama's record appear anywhere north of calamitous failure. This "progressive" president is headed anywhere but forward.

There have been at least two radical-left publications named "Vorwaerts" (the German word for "Forward"). One was the daily newspaper of the Social Democratic Party of Germany whose writers included Friedrich Engels and Leon Trotsky. It still publishes as the organ of Germany's SDP, though that party has changed considerably since World War II. Another was the 1844 biweekly reader of the Communist League. Karl Marx, Engels and Mikhail Bakunin are among the names associated with that publication.

East Germany named its Army soccer club ASK Vorwaerts Berlin (later FC Vorwaerts Frankfort).

Vladimir Lenin founded the publication "Vpered" (the Russian word for "forward") in 1905. Soviet propaganda film-maker Dziga Vertov made a documentary whose title is sometimes translated as "Forward, Soviet" (though also and more literally as "Stride, Soviet").

Conservative critics of the Obama administration have noted numerous ties to radicalism and socialists throughout Mr. Obama's history, from his first political campaign being launched from the living room of two former Weather Underground members, to appointing as green jobs czar Van Jones, a self-described communist.

I didn't know about that connection. I just thought it was a dumb, meaningless, slogan. Although in all fairness "Winning our Future" isn't any better. I think the most tragic thing about this whole affair is that our democratic system has been reduced slogans and marketing tricks, rather than serious debates and policy proposals.

"Forward" today has good connotative responses amongst stupid MSNBC-watching, Starbucks drinking, liberals who believe Rick Santorum is the perfect example of what's wrong with America today.

"Forward" stands for the brand of "progressivism" that thinks multiculturalism and having gay friends is the highest achievement of enlightened, cultured, and refined sensibility.

"Forward" is a Frank Luntz style buzzword to make stupid voters associate Obama with "progressivism", because his policies so far have been mostly a continuation of Bush's policies across the board. All this is, is a stupid campaign trick to win over disenchanted liberal voters.

Obama is too incompetent to meet known ideas of an antichrist or even world-class despot. He is just a tool of the Marxist/communist substructure has become a reality after Joe McCarthy's extraordinarily clumsy attempt to expose it many decades ago. His clumsiness was unfortunate because "Tail-gunner Joe" was aiming at the wrong targets. He missed the mothership that flew under the radar and had us lose the cold war even as we celebrated our victory.

Wu Wei:

When I first heard the slogan "Forward" I thought of MSNBC and their "Lean Forward". (When the slogan came out, there was a pic of Keith Olbermann leaning backward in his chair with the slogan "Lean Forward" above him. Maybe the suits knew then that they were going to have to fire that loose cannon. :biggrin-new:)

Anyway, I don't think it's far fetched to trace the "Forward" slogan to old leftist rhetoric. Remember that "Yes, we can!" is the English translation of "Si, se puede!" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%AD_se_puede), the slogan of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers, a slogan which dates from 1972. So it is not beyond Obama to use leftist slogans when they suit his purposes. Obama used the exact Spanish language slogan in Mexican American enclaves during the 2008 election.

If I were Dolores Huerta, I would not have been happy to my slogan on the sign of a self-aggrandizing, arrogant empty suit like Oblahblah, but I imagine she drank the Kool Aid like every other stupid leftist. Obama has since thrown the left under the bus. He has also thrown the Constitution under the bus, so maybe the leftists will have a chance to read the damned thing while that bus is barreling along as Oblahblah looks for new people to stuff down there.

As to the slogan "Forward", it is no surprise to me that it is a translation of a European Marxist slogan. It's another branding mechanism. As to whether Oblahblah intends to bring Marxism to the US or not, the jury is out.

But, Oblahblah certainly intends to bring totalitarianism. How else do you explain NDAA, the evisceration of due process, strip searches for minor offenses, an executive order that codifies martial law, etc.? Oblahblah pushed this crap through. In court, his administration has consistently argued for the stripping of rights from American citizens. How about the spying on and storing of phone calls, texts, emails, etc. of EVERY US citizen by the NSA? Oblahblah has strengthened these invasions of privacy and due process.

Everything I have just mentioned is totalitarian in nature. The Constitution, which the left loves to hate, is the one thing that kept us somewhat free from government intrusion and able to fight the government when it went too far. Whatever power the Constitution gave us has now been pulverized.

So, I don't see the people on this thread as alarmist. I think they are wide awake and seeing what is being done to our rights on a daily basis. They may see it as leftist--and certainly the left gave extreme examples of totalitarianism in the 20th century. The right, on the other hand, gave us fascism. But this is also totalitarian. That's why when the Tea Party carries images of the old Soviet Union and of Adolphe Hitler, they are actually making sense, despite what the press would have us think. In the end, it's all about our rights being wrested from us. Which side the attack on our rights comes from largely doesn't matter.

Obama ‘Forward’ campaign slogan inspires Wikipedia editing war

GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney mocked President Barack Obama‘s re-election campaign slogan — “Forward” — during a fundraiser Wednesday night. “‘Forward,’ what, over the cliff?” he joked.

Romney isn’t the only one trying to make hay over Obama’s head-scratcher of a choice on Monday. A Wikipedia page exploring the historical significance of the word “Forward” as a socialist rallying cry has made it the subject of dueling snarks from assorted would-be Wiki editors and vandals.

Within hours of the Obama campaign’s slogan unveiling, the online page had its first edit since November 2011. ”Forward is the official slogan of the Barack Obama presidential campaign, 2012,” the simple entry read.

But nothing in Wiki-land is simple, especially when the name “Barack Obama” is sandwiched between references to “Avante!, organ of the Portuguese Communist Party” and “Voorwaarts!, organ of the Communist Youth Movement (Netherlands).”

>>>

Those edits came after Neal Boortz, the libertarian talk radio host, published an article online alerting his listeners to the possibility that the page in question could disappear.

“Clearly Obama has an official or unofficial Wikipedia team ready to cleanse postings that might not play well with voters still on the edge,” Boortz wrote Wednesday. “Control the message. Always control the message.”

>>>

A similar edit war continues on the Wikipedia page exploring the Obama-Biden campaign’s use of “Forward” as its slogan. What now stands as a one-line explainer already went through more than 500 edits on Wednesday alone. It has since been locked down and protected from further editing.

Along the way, however, the page became a monument to vulgarity, garden-variety political discord and plain old silliness.

“We all know that the economy is in fact racing backwards,” one vandal quipped in the article. ”It would seem that this is just wishful thinking.”

Another changed the slogan to “Forewarned.”

>>>

But for every attempt to be somewhat serious, another relied on stand-up comedy.

“Seriously, what a strange slogan,” one nameless editor wrote Wednesday evening. “You’d think they’d want to go backwards… back to when people had jobs… back to when health care was affordable… back before Obama ate Bo cause he had the munchies.”

It is Karl Marx indeed. First, we learn that Earth Day was started on the birthday of Vladimir Lenin, the Communist butcher and founder of the USSR. Now we learn that Barack 0bama, America’s first Marxist president, is launching his campaign on the father of communism’s birthday. This is just too appropriate.
