1953 - In Waco, TX, a tornado killed 114 people and 196 businesses were completely destroyed.

1964 - Construction began on the Toledo Bend Reservoir. The reservoir occupies parts of Newton, Sabine, Panola, and Shelby counties in Texas and Sabine and De Soto parishes in Louisiana. The dam was completed in 1969.

1970 - Lubbock, TX, was hit by a tornado. Twenty-six people were killed and more than $135 million in damage was caused.

1995 - B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Bonnie Raitt, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Double Trouble, filmed "Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan" for Austin City Limits.

2003 - Rafael Palmeiro (Texas Rangers) hit his 500th career home run to become only the 19th player in baseball history to reach the mark.
