You'd think these posers would learn by now that you can't get away with this in the internet age.

I've come in contact with quite a number of them, but none so crazy as this guy. The guys I have come across start talking about things that I know are impossible in one way or the other, or don't really speak the military language.
But I was in the navy. It would be easy to sneak an army poser past me.
Fake combat vets; fake POW's; they're out there. And some of them are pretty good. This guy was, but I'd like to think I'd catch him.

Right after Desert Storm, it was in vogue for panhandlers to claim to be Vietnam vets, especially when they were trying to hit me up for change when I was in uniform. One of them was in his early twenties, and hadn't been out of diapers when the last helicopter left Saigon. Those guys were despicable, but I never saw one that went beyond putting together a cardboard sign. This clown has forged a DD-214, which, I believe, is a felony. And, his highest army rank appears to be E-4, but he was discharged as an E-3, which tells you all that you need to know about his past.
And, of course, that brilliant example of CNN journalistic intellect, Soledad O'Brien, repeated his claims to her viewers. He impersonated a SEAL, but she continues to impersonate intelligent life.
