What are your thoughts on atheists? Most leftists are atheists, however those with religious faith are welcome. There are some more hardcore people that think religion should be destroyed however, that is only a small amount. So how are atheists treated here? Are they welcomed or shunned by the community?

I can assure you that there are extremely few leftist sites that tolerate anyone with actual Christian faith. Most conservative sites are welcoming of all faiths, as long as noobs are reasonably polite and able to discuss issues. (Not all posters will be polite in return, there is a price for being new. :smile-new: )

It depends. Some atheists have come to their beliefs in intellectual ways, which makes them interesting conversationalists. Some have done so because Santa Jesus didn't answer their prayer to bring them ponies for Christmas. They're rather boring because they still blame God deep down for something that wasn't about God to begin with.

I can think of at least two atheist conservatives off the top of my head here, and I'm very sure I'm missing some people.

And I'm a Christian liberal, nice to meet you. I can think of another liberal here who isn't an atheist. I think you have a lot of misconceptions about liberals no doubt partially spread by some conservatives and some liberal atheists.

I think most atheists are okay. I think that people who blame all the ills on a religion tend to ignore the good that religion has done along with the other factors leading out to the bad stuff. You name the crisis or bad thing, and I can probably tell you a factor other than religion contributing to the problem.

I was one when I was much younger and less analytical. Then I realized that Atheism is every bit as much a matter of faith as Belief, neither one is based on objective fact, they are really two sides of the same coin. I refer to myself as Agnostic now, meaning I don't pretend to know one way or the other about the existence of God or Gods, and whether our doings are of any consequence to them or not.

I dip them in deep pools of water. If they float, witches, if not, they can go to Hell.

That's pretty much my position, with the added caveat that I recognize that the legacy of Judaism/Christianity has been far more beneficial to mankind than any other religious tradition, and that while I remain agnostic on the spiritual basis of the benefits, I cannot argue with them practically.

If you are a Christian it seems there is only one brand of Atheist; if you're an Atheist it seems there is only one brand of Christian. Each position is oversimplified.

Most Christians will consider me an Atheist. But I'm not, really. It's just that my vision of the nature, power and form of God is greatly different from theirs. Still, to me the teaching of The Bible are irrelevant and that's where Christians - at least most of them - draw the line.

So for purposes of discussion I align myself with the Atheists, but then as soon as the Atheists argue for the nonexistence of God I find myself in disagreement again.
Once in a while someone will throw a rock at me around here, but not often and not a very large rock. I don't mind. Sticks and stones, and all that, you know..........:smile-new:

You should have known better-there are some very serious Catholics over there. Not the kinds of Catholics I know, but ones who literally believe in transubstantiation.

Can't argue with that, although what the two stand for in cultural terms has changed quite a lot over the course of their existence, unlike Islam - for instance, the Jews pretty much gave up on genocide after the Canaanites, and the Christians gave up on conversion by the sword after the Age of Exploration.

Atheists set themselves up for an impossible task in claiming their beliefs are 'Scientific,' since there is and inescapable 'Proof of a negative' logic flaw in any argument for their position. "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence."

What are your thoughts on atheists?

They've become quite annoying and overzealous in recent years. Not all of them, of course, but some very loud members like to stoop down to the level of other extremist groups and put up billboards.

What I don't get is that to a true atheist, a religious symbol would have no meaning--it would be just a stone or piece of carved wood. A true atheist hiking on public land should not be bothered by a 50-year-old symbol of someone else's belief because to a non-believer it's just a piece of wood representing another culture or belief system.

Also, their legal attacks on religious symbols are obviously designed to be a dickish annoyance. If you know anything about architecture, most public buildings are covered with religious symbols. The buildings themselves are symbols of a Western culture belief system. Should we tear down every spire or gothic arch? Should we go through every publicly funded museum and remove religious paintings? The atheists who go on these crusades are just being dicks. If they really believed what they say, a Nativity Scene would just be quaint representation of some other culture, like a totem pole.

Notice they never go after totem poles or the star of David on a publicly funded Holocaust remembrance., just Christian symbols. Dicks.

That's because Communisum and Socialism brainwash people into believing that there is no higher power than the central government.

however those with religious faith are welcome.

They're welcome as long as you're willing to totally ignore whole sections of the bible that that don't square with your Libtard beliefs.

There are some more hardcore people that think religion should be destroyed however, that is only a small amount. So how are atheists treated here? Are they welcomed or shunned by the community?

They are welcome here. They are intergral parts of this forum. However...where they differ from Libtard mouth breathers like you...is that they don't go around wearing their disbelief in God in their sleeve or use it as a political statement...despite the Liberal meme you folks repeat ad nauseum.

I'm wondering the same. I actually patted him on his "karma" for it. Maybe they finally caught him and he's back on his meds.

Snarkiness can be fun/funny, but only when there is an ounce of truth to it. Liberals usually fail to understand this and use snark based on their echo chamber, basement lore lies.

He just woke up, I better get off his computer.:evil-grin:

If atheists are having a hard time with the word 'God' in the pledge of allegiance, why don't they just think of God as the collective courage and inspiration that motivated and inspired the founding fathers. They believe in the concept of courage and concept of a person being inspired to act--why can't that be their concept of God?

I got an early look at Prometheus and I'm curious how creationists will view it. It's an interesting take on intelligent design--some may take offense at the direction, but I though it was good science fiction--science endeavoring to answer the big questions.

Whether Christian or scientist, if you go far enough in your questions as to origin, it comes down to a big leap of faith. Christians admit it, scientists with their "inquisitive minds" seem to avoid it.
